Anne Hathaway, 'Next' Cover Girl

This is a gay rag here in NYC. Anne was on the holiday weekend cover promoting Love and Other Drugs, and though the inside article is dependably slim, she once again proves herself not just a wonderful celeb but a cool person and major friend of the gays.
"I was at the Empire State Pride Agenda dinner a few years ago," she recalls. "And Margaret Cho put it perfectly. She said, 'I can't believe we're still dealing with this shit!'" If a class act like Hathaway is cursing, you know she means business.
Love her. How beautiful are these photos by twin photographers The Riker Brothers?

Wait, is she hoping gay people will go see Love & Other Drugs? Cause it's awful. Poor Anne.

Kind of a tangent I need to get off my chest ...

I love her but a little less now. After listening to the Terry Gross NPR interview the other day (in which she got almost the full hour), I was sorrowfully disappointed. I still feel that she's smart and insightful, but she's got to get over some youthful pretensions before I can love her again as much as I used to. Her phrasing at the beginning of each answer was so ear-cringing and annoying (such as, "Ah, my little Kymmy," (referring to her favorite character she's played; and talking about different people she's worked with as "my dear so-and-so," etc.) I really hope she grows out of it fast. She's, unfortunately, not ready for primetime when it comes to this level of interviewing. I think saccharine is the word I'm looking for, but I'm sure there are better words out there.

And as much as I loved her, I do think that she was out of place in "Brokeback Mountain." Even though I love her, I can't but help make fun of her in that movie, especially her final scene, because her performance is so unintentionally campy (and I dare anyone to argue that the blonde wig helps matters much--which isn't really her fault, but still ... ).

And after listening to the interview, I have some explanation for it. Her and Lee filmed the final scene coming from two completely different mindsets. One where what she was saying, she believed was the truth, because that's all she knew. And one where she was lying to Ennis, knowing full well what happened to Jack. She says she doesn't know what made it into the film, because Lee made a hodgepodge out of it.

Frankly, this explanation makes me think Lee took that approach, because, (dare I say it) the director and producers thought she could handle the role, but, ultimately, she wasn't confident enough and wasn't right for the character, so she couldn't make distinct choices that fit the scene. Why else would he have her make two completely different choices for the same scene that are in stark contrast of one another? I know directors get their footage from a variety of ways and maybe this is a common tactic. But, you couldn't really get away with this on stage. And if anyone should know what is going on in the character's mind, it should be the actor. And to make two different choices that completely change the narrative ... hmmn ...

Just my two cents. I loved her in "Rachel" though, and most everything else she's done and she was the sole reason that the truly awful "Havoc" was even watchable.

Am I going against the flow or something? Just when I was starting to really like her you guys turn against her ;)

I obviously appreciate her support for the gay community and she seems like she's honestly humbled by the world she now is a part of.

Plus, I'd like to invite her in a party and let her sing and do whatever she wants. I'm sure everyone would have a blast.

I agree with you Vince. I kind of liked her but that youthful pretension was all over her SNL monologue and when she introduced the musical guest I thought "Why is she acting like that?". Whatever you want to call it its just too much.

I understand what you guys are talking about and I find it a bit annoying, but I kinda just look at it as a quirk. I love the girl, she's talented, smart, beautiful and seemingly a class act. I just chalk it up to her being a bit of a dork, which endears her to me even more.

hahaha, wasn't it a couple of years ago that she talked about how disappointed she was with religion after realizing that religion (Christianity) disses homosexuality and all that BECAUSE HER BROTHER IS GAY?

I'm not sure whether all that support and gay love comes from the fact that her bro is gay or because she is indeed THAT open-minded and humane and wonderfully kindhearted and indeed THAT interested in gay rights.

And these quotes you posted sound a little bit too partial and aggressive and sound like it's rather personal for her, in a "I support my brother no matter what he is" way.

And never forget... it's THAT time of the year when we have to generate Oscar buzz and look like good people! Nicole and Natalie are campaigning like crazy too, but their movies got better reviews at least.

Having said all of the above, I find her to be an amazing actress and love her in BB mountain and if we have to be objective, yes, she did deserve the Oscar in 2008, she was fantastic in "Rachel Getting Married".

I've listened to that NPR interview. I like her in general and she's talented but she tries way to hard at times.

Yavor -- oh that's too cynical! Her statements like this on gay rights have been happening for years now, totally unattached to oscar campaigns. She obviously means it. Whether or not she would have gotten there without her brother -- who knows -- but that's why coming out is so important. Statistically people who know that someone they love is gay are a lot less bigoted and ignorant on the topic.

sorry, but to me her statements sound hypocritical and I guess this is what makes mine sound cynical to you.

+ my statements circle more around my belief that she's pro gay mostly because her bro is gay, not because she's a genuine sweetie.

If she is such a lovely open minded wonderful kind caring person, why did she call two women bitches out loud in one of the Brokeback premieres just because they used her the boyfriend's hanckerchief- boyfriend later known as "the thief".

I'm torn with her. I like this interview but I was one of the people left gagging after her idiotic NPR interview, and I wasn't as thrilled with her SNL hosting as everyone else.

In fact, between her and Franco I might have to watch the Oscars on mute.

This chick seriously gets on my nerves. I really find her personalityirritating , shes always trying to be such a sweetheart. Shes an okay actress with RAchel getting married almost impressing me but for that to be her only seal of approval shes a bit overrated to me. I kinda go back and forth with her and these days shes annoying me again.

I listened to her NPR interview, and I enjoyed hearing a young performer be intelligent and articulate for a change. Recently, Anne was also very entertaining on Charlie Rose . I truly don't understand the hatred towards her. You can't please everybody. Besides, what is wrong a woman having a girlish side ?

Hathaway seems decent, open-minded, and fun to hang out with . I can't say that about most Hollywood actors- young and old.
Anne is the best female SNL host in years- even surpassing Betty White. She proved her genius on that show. Hathaway pulled -off a great Judy Garland, Katie Holmes, and Kate Middleton- without missing a beat.
