The Sparkling Diamond

Thanks to TFE reader William for pointing out these Australia premiere photos on DListed

He writes...

THAT is a movie star.
Our sentiments exactly, Billy. Australia is but 8 days away.

or a wax figure of a movie star...

The premiere was in Sydney yesterday - there are TONS of reviews and photos on the web.

hehe. I can't wait to see this movie though. Last semi-epic film I can remember her in was Cold Mountain and Far & Away and I really enjoyed both of them.

I'm almost over her. I'm almost there. It took me a long time to realise she wasn't the fascinating person I though she was based on 1999-2003.

How naive I was.

b*t*x. does her face move.

Cold Mountain - feh. Book was great. movie sucked. Hard to believe seeing Nicole out there in her designer black coat w/ wide Neiman's belt, and stilletto boots. gals in the civil war just didn't dress like that. not to mention her recently veneered super white teeth. even renee had the super-whites goin'....while her character probably chewed on tar, roots & rabbit bones.

the whole tom cruise thing to me is very intriquing as to what really went on w nicole....and what is currently going on with the new one who is not nearly as talented.

A scared movie star judging from her weird mouth thing.
I can't wait for this to open, it makes me even happier for the fact I'm gonna be in the States next week yay!

I think I am one of the few people who, honest to goodness, loves Cold Mountain. I think Nicole's accent is uneven at best, but she's still recognizable Nicole, not lobotomized broad-comedy Bewitched/Stepford Wives Nicole. Plus, Jude Law at his sexiest, and Renee Zellwegger at her cutest. If you take the whole Oscar debacle (Zellwegger's) away from it, it's a fun performance. And it's Minghella! I even like PSH in it.

And I know it's all botox, but in that unphotoshopped pap picture, she looks practically flawless and like the Kidman I remember. If her top lip keeps receding, I'll be a very happy man.

Wow, she looks like the old Nicole (pre-2005). She looks very good here, which is not something said often in the past two years. I thought she looked ok on Oprah except her lips. Also- the red lipstick does not suit her. She needs to lay off lip injections. Meg Ryan? Ew. Melanie Griffith? Ew. Please Nicole, STOP. She used to be beautiful, and she can still age gracefully if she stops the lip injections NOW.

Take some lessons from Michelle Pfeiffer. Mmmmmm, Pfeiffer. *drools*

Not to be mean, but I never found her attractive. She sort of reminds me of a witch.

She looks beautiful. I don't know if I'm naïf, but I can see no botox.

She's stunning. And The Hollywood Reporter loved her. Let's have a round for the Kidmaniacs.

yes, the HR singled out Kidman saying her performance in Australia is one of her most engaging

Things are certainly shaping up for her and Australia. HR loved the movie and loved Kidman's + Walter's performances. I dare say Baz has done it again. I can't wait until tomorrow night when we will know how the rest of the US critics stand.

I think the general consensus from Australia is "very good" but it will suit better for international audiences... perfect for the awardage, methinks. Gosh, I hope I haven't been wrong about this movie all along. *crosses fingers*

Umm, "can see no botox"? How can one "see" botox anyway? I can see NO wrinkles and NO expression, THUS I "see" botox.

Anyone who think she's had no botox is kidding themselves. But botox is not the main problem, it's the bizarre lips she showcased on Oprah.

The Red Carpet arrival was shown live on teli and Nic looked like a Goddess. Then she starts talking and she's is as dorky/nerdy and funny as ever. Her face is not immobile and her lips, in natural pale lippy, look fine. I said to my daughter I think that what ever botox or collegen that women was using is out of her system.

From what I have heard from the critics, the movie sounds like the Baz of old, theatrical, melodramatic, beautifully, filmed, fine performances, some cliches, a little long but overall a wonderful movie to enjoy on the big screen with the biggest praise going to Brandon Walters. I can't wait to see this for myself!!

Okay...so, I also worked with Nicole Kidman...way back when before she was a huge movie star...but after she was married to Cruise.

She was am original. Amazing. So, hot blooded and human. So patient with everybody. She was a consumate professional and movie star to be, yet took the time with people to show them that they were important as well.

She was so mesmerizing, I saw a seasoned actor go up on his lines because, as he said, he was so taken in by what she was doing he forgot he was in a scene. That's quite something, and i have never seen it since! The closest thing to Kidman I ever met, was Kevin Costner, and I think she could have melted the pants off of him as well.

BUT, I did run into her years later, and man had she changed. She was cold and cautious and didn't seem to want to talk to anyone. Her vibe was completely different. It was bizarre....and sad, really.

I think that's why she looks like she's looks, because she has changed inside.

Life hit her with enough crap, that she became a guarded person, instead of the lovely free spirit she once was.

This is a tough business on actors, and getting tougher with all the scrutiny of the internet, and gossip rags. The young ones barely stand a chance of being authentic.

Hey that's interesting Sally. Do you think that since she had Sunday Rose she may be back to the free spirit she once? Cause she seemed really relaxed last night on the Red carpet.

I hope so.

OK, is that herpes all over her bottom lip? do you think she got it from Tom?

wow, when I saw the subway ads for Australia, first I thought it was a travel ad, then I thought that was Naomi Watts running in the khakis... but it's the new, streamlined Nicole? Color me converted!

Gorgeous but what's with the gray strands? Figured she went BLONDE because gray is harder to cover up when you have red hair, so why now? Do we have another Jamie Lee Curtis on our hands? Go her!

I can't. She's so wooden and glassy-eyed anymore, and she's too bleachy blonde. Give me the Kidman from Practical Magic.

Not that I have seen it. Or own it. Ahem.

Sally Belle said...

I loved the Nicole of Practical Magic. Hypnotizing!

Julie...and everyone else...that is a book you should read if you haven't already!

Brilliance...and nothing like the movie.

It's all about family and familial relationships. Mothers and daughters, in particular.

One of Hoffman's best.
