Inflation's a bitch, innit.
And this is why its good to live in Middle America. Sure, you have to wait a month to see the newest great movie, but you still don't pay that much.
THE ANGELIKA = HELL ON EARTH.
I was forced to deal with going there for Let the Right One In, it was the only place showing it. I'd successfully avoided the place for years... and it was every bit as shitty an experience, theater-wise (loved the movie), that I'd remembered it to be. HATE THEM SO MUCH.

the last time i went to the angelika was for 'assassination of jesse james'... over a year ago. i hate that place. thank god 'slumdog' is playing at lincoln plaza as well.

bbats/ja i was actually there to see LET THE RIGHT ONE IN. it's the only place it's showing
Mine was kind of a joke (only kind of because i secretly want to see it)
I always like to support independent theaters like the Angelika, but I feel awful because whenever given the option of one of them versus a multiplex, I almost always choose a multiplex. As much as I'd like to support indies, I'm always partial to quality presentation (projection and sound).
I may be contributing to everything becoming run by huge corporations, but I'd rather ENJOY watching my movie than hearing/feeling the rumble of the subway every 5 minutes, and having to sit near the back of an extremely narrow auditorium rendering the screen the size of a postage stamp.
It's true--the Angelika is certainly the worst arthouse. The screens are tiny compared to the size of the theater, the auditoriums are obnoxiously long and narrow, they rarely change their oft-middlebrow film schedule (how long did they show "La Vie en Rose" for?), and you can hear the F/V train rumbling under the theater every 20 minutes. Nonetheless, I still find myself catching a film there at least once or twice a month.
That cupcake must have been $4+, though, because I often get a small coffee there and it's certainly not more than $2.
So you saw it! Awesome. Glad you caught it while it was still around. I think I actually might suck it in and brave Angelika one more time to see it again. It lingers.
nick m -- i have to say I'm shocked. SHOCKED that the angelika survived Sunshine opening. Since Sunshine is like a million times better in both screens, comfort, sound, etcetera...
it horrifies me that films still go exclusively to angelika...
Wow, the Angelika got even MORE expensive since I moved. Insane-o.
AND it's horrible to work there.
