Here Comes a New Year...

What's your biggest movie wish? (I haven't given 2011 that much thought yet but I'm hoping that the Pedro/Antonio reunion is worth the wait.)

That Hailee Steinfeld will be completely ignored on Jan 25th. I'd honestly sell my soul for this. My first born child, too.

Jonathon said...

Also, a good part for my life-long crush, Rose McGowan.

That hilary swank will not be in the top 5 come jan 25th as i feel she will at the expense of michelle williams or lesley manville.

I'd give my second-born to see Jennifer Aniston's career go kablooey. Either that or to see her cast in something completely out of left field like Lars von Trier's next film.

NATHANIEL R said...

Jonathon -- whoa! That's some emphatic smear campaign ;)

mrripley -- i wouldn't worry too much. SAG is rarely 100% accurate when it comes to matching Oscar.

Does this count?

Meet a girl that joins me at True Grit rather than drag me to The Bounty Hunter.

Please?!?!

Biggest 2011 wish is that my top three most anticipated movies are as good as I hope they'll be:

1) The Cronenberg Freud/Jung one
2) Meek's Cutoff and
3) We Need to Talk About Kevin from the much-missed Lynne Ramsay.

May the great and powerful overlords of the movie industry make Jason Robert Brown's film adaptations of 13 and The Last 5 Years come swiftly down the pike with talented singing actors and minimal dumbing down of the score and book. May the teenagers of 13 actually be teenagers and the struggling actress and writer of The Last 5 Years be played by actors who can rub two brain cells together to form a spark of life and ambition in their eyes.

Léo Dicaprio smiling, laughing, happy with his wifein a movie?
i feel it won't be the next year

I'm hoping that the rest of the "August" Osage County" cast is filled out with some veteran actors instead of more STAR casting. I'm really excited for that movie and the attached stars and director already have me...I don't know, it's just a bad taste in my mouth, as much as I love Streep.

I second all of Kevin's wishes.

Michelle Williams and Ryan Gosling nominated.

For Ron and Hermione's first kiss to be as wonderful, emotional, sweet, passionate and beautiful as it should be and as it is expected to be.

I wish that Paul Thomas Anderson begins to film some movie... any movie.

Would a Jeremy Renner/Jessica Alba sex scene be too much to ask for?

The return of Daniel Craig as James Bond in an excellent movie with adventure, grit, humor, AND SEX.

that I'll finally really get to see Tree of Life.

I'd like it if Walter Salles didn't mess up his adaptation of 'On the Road.' Also, if Tarsem's 'Immortals' is 1/10 as pretty as 'The Fall,' I can die happy.

That Michael Fassbender ends 2011 as the biggest star on the planet. And, assuming that he's totally going to kick ass in one of his bazillion movies, Oscar recognition would be nice too.

That 9 months will fly by, since We Need To Talk About Kevin is apparently out in the UK in September. And here's wishing it's more 'third time lucky' than 'bad luck comes in 3s' with regards to awards honours for Tilda.

Glenn Close – Free yourself from the land of Oscar Never Was (Playing a real life person, transgender, period piece, more over due than Meryl Streep)

Mildred Pierce – Win an Emmy Kate
Harry’s Law – Win an Emmy Kathy (If she’s nominated it’ll be her 9th) She’s never won a freaking Emmy!

That Pedro film has me anxious as hell. The whole revenge/plastic surgeon angle in the hands of Almodovar I don’t think I can handle this. However I want to see this. – If there’s only one film from 2011 I could watch.

@jonathan. something is seriously wrong with you

- Natalie Portman wins an Oscar for Black Swan
- Ryan Gosling & Michelle Williams nominated
- Pedro/Antonio reunion is a success.
- Kate Winslet and Cate Blanchett announce they're doing a movie together, as estranged sisters or merciless rivals.
- Michael Fassbender & Viggo Mortensen doing a threesome, with me.

That Kathleen Turner will get a career revivance in an edgy Quentin Tarantino film a la John Travolta!!!!

Actually, my biggest film wish of 2011 is to be cast in a film. Not just any film, how about to be part of an ensemble in an award winning well received instant classic, so that in 2012, I can turn down scripts. That would make my next year1

Natalie Portman loses the Oscar.

Beau McCoy said...

Natalie Portman wins the Oscar and Patricia Clarkson stars in a vehicle that demands she win the Oscar the following year.

Or Tilda. If you wanna give Tilda five amazing films and performances next year, I'm coo with dat too.

Glenn Close x Meryl Streep in a tight race for the Best Actress 2011 Oscar. Glenn wins.

has anyone heard if the movie norwegian wood is coming to play in the states? saw it at TIFF and it was a beautifully shot movie, the movie was good as well... also heres to hoping ryan gosling for blue valentine gets in for best actor

Evan said...

I'd love to see Ben Foster and Jeremy Renner play hard-asses/brothers in the same film.

I'd accept Ben Foster in a good role no matter the co-star, really.

Good casting for "Wicked" the movie musical would also be good. Lea Michele does not count.

Ryan T. said...

After seeing BLUE VALENTINE then I'll chime in with a few people and say I NEED Gosling and Williams to be nominated. The fact that both of them aren't locks is ridiculous if people actually see the movies they are voting on.

More wishes...
- Kate Winslet and/or Leonardo DiCaprio in an all-out comedy.
- Meryl Streep and Lisa Kudrow to do a film together.
- MORE JAMES MCAVOY. Where did he go?
- Scott Pilgrim to get AT LEAST one Oscar nomination.

Ryan T. said...

@Evan - I swore I read that as "hard-assed brothers" and I went... mmm ORLY?

That every film that wins a Cannes prize gets released within six months of the festival on 100 screens or more.

That Criterion releases some of my favourite films on Blu-Ray

That 3D films cease to exist.

That one of the internet fanboys' films doesn't get nominated, if only to hear the moaning.

arkaan -- funny. im hopimg its True Grit. i mean the coen bros are great but it's not like they need to be nominated every time they make a movie.

Liz -- but then we'd have to share him with everyone!

Ryan said...

i'm greedy and have three...

- Edie Falco cast in a juicy (film) role

- Ryan Gosling receiving his 2nd Oscar nomination for "Blue Valentine"

- Clive Owen and Tom Jane cast as gay lovers

chris na Taraja said...

Oh, new wish, Ryan Gosling in a steamy hot love film, but a gay love film! I can't quit you Ry!

I want Dench to be great in Jane Eyre and get another nod.

I also wish God of Carnage will be released in 2011.

I want another director to be attached to Osage County.

I want all critics to hate all the movies so that i'll watch them with extremely low expectations and be pleasantly surprised all the time. OK, i don't meant it but you know..

I want another cast to be attached.-Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts, you just know they pulled those names out of a hat!

That they don't decide to split the second part of the final Harry Potter movie into halves once more and we get even more time with that franchise...now I've said it and it's just out there.

Okay, for real...I hope I get to see Nicole Kidman as a nominee on the red carpet come Oscar night. I loved her in Rabbit Hole, but part of me is thinking that all the precursor love is like Angelina Jolie for A Mighty Heart. That is, "Great performance. Welcome back...PSYCH!"

My movie wishes:
1.Oscar for Natalie
2.Great movie comeback for great Glenn which will result in an Oscar win.
3.Great movies to watch.
4.A surprise Oscar nom for City Island.

Okay I know this is a very anti-Harry Potter blog, but I'm really looking forward to the last part.
Also that POC 4 isn't a disaster.
I like the Winslet-Blanchett/Caprio idea. (Caprio should not be a mental/depressed widower though)
Also can't wait for Fassbender domination.
I think most of all I'm waiting for a big Social Network win at the Oscars.

The announcement that Meryl Streep and Sam Shepard will be playing the parents of Christian Bale and Ryan Gosling in a film written and directed by Christopher Nolan.

"Kate Winslet and Cate Blanchett announce they're doing a movie together, as estranged sisters or merciless rivals."

Hm...Kate as Joan Fontaine, Cate as Olivia de Havilland?

NATHANIEL R said...

paul-- that would be so weird. as if cate decides to play as many real oscar winners as she can in her career ;)

Henry said...

Natalie Portman wins Best Actress Oscar. Figured that's the cherry on top of being engaged and preggers.

Paul Outlaw said...

Nat, the Oscar winners I'd like to see played by Cate are Patricia Neal, Faye Dunaway...and Edith Head (although she's too tall for that last one). ;-)
