Kathleen Turner Checks Out "The King's Speech"

Look it's Kathleen Turner attending a screening of The King's Speech. (The woman to her right is Jean Doumanian who produced many of Woody Allen's 90s pictures)

Kathleen has one of the most famous speaking voices in the entirety of cinematic history. How could she possibly relate to the king's predicament?

I kid. Perhaps she loved it. How much would you love to see Ms. Turner's Oscar ballot?

I liked The King's Speech (though the "best of year" kudos puzzle) but if there were ever a biopic called The Kathleen's Speech which was all about Ms. Turner's husky pipes and how she developed her amazing line deliveries, I would totally campaign for it to win every award.

Kathleen's near total absence from movies since her 80's heyday still disappoints me. I wish HBO or Showtime, etc. would film her in "Virginia Woolf?"

Regarding Doumanian, though: you might want to change that 'produces' to the past tense. She first worked with Woody on "Bullets Over B'way" and then the rest of his 90's stuff, but they had had a bitter falling out after "Small Time Crooks" when he sued her. She is also semi-famous as the producer of that horrendous 'second-cast' season of SNL.

I just had to say it somewhere. Black Swan takes over my life too. I'm really obsessed with it. It becomes an addiction. :-) I want Natalie!

I wish Kathleen had played the Barbara Hershey role in BLACK SWAN. Can you imagine the ferocity she would've brought to that role? I guess seeing Hershey back in business is almost as good as seeing Kathleen on the boards again.

Nathaniel, if you could pick actor to make a comeback with a huge come-out-of-nowhere award-winning role, I have to imagine Turner would be second only to La Pfeiffer.

John T -- you are correct. I'm not kidding when i say that seeing Kathleen do WHOS AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF is one of the best entertainment experiences of my entire life.

she was perfect. i have trouble with long shows and when it was over (and it's very long) i wanted to go again the next day.

cb -- i changed it a minute after posting but i guess you caught it first. oopsie.

I think her reaction was: When I watch you eat. When I see you asleep. When I look at you lately, I just want to smash your face in.

I think there was a Nip/Tuck episode devoted to Kathleen's pipes ...

(way after it jumped the shark)

Hershey is still a beautiful woman. She gave a subtle and understated performance that in the hands of Turner would’ve been comedy camp gold. Thank God she wasn’t asked. Besides I have a thing for brunettes – both men and women. I’m not bi – I just appreciate dark beauty.

I recall an interview Miss Turner gave to Barbara Walters when she was at the height of her fame, perhaps her Oscar year. She discussed her vocal training and the importance of a trained voice to an actor. I think about that when I hear [fill in the name of almost any young actress] speak in a whiny, nowhere surburban girl voice. In the old days, actors had distinctive voices, but today, I'm hard pressed to come up with anyone other than Turner.
