Oscar Night. Featuring Appearances By...

We already know that Anne Hathaway and James Franco are hosting and the only thing we have to say about that going forward is that Hathaway better sing again! From here and out we'll hear names of presenters. Most of them will be globally famous because that's how they do. So far we've got:
  • Halle Berry
  • Oprah Winfrey
  • Jeff Bridges & Sandra Bullock -- last year's lead winners. We wonder if this means they'll return to the classic way of presenting acting statues, with Bullock handing out Actor and Bridges handing out Actress? Mars & Venus don'cha know.
  • Marisa Tomei -yay!
I'll update this list as more presenters are announced.

In before Vanessa Hudgens, Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, Zac Effron, Miley Cyrus, Lady Gaga, Jessica Alba, Ashton Kutcher, Jonas Brothers or, dare I say it, JUSTIN BIEBER!

Anonymous -- i'd say bite your tongue but none of those choices would surprise me given the direction they've been heading.

Fucking Fox Searchlight campaign harder for Tomei as BSA for Cyrus – I’m so in love with Marisa right now. She’s the opposite side of my heart – when I’m not dreaming of a Bates’ resurgence.

That would be sweet - Sandy handing over an Oscar to Practical Magic co-star Nicole!

What about: Jack White to do a rock version of one of the original score nominees? (The Rock gen is the Oscar age right now, so it'd make sense to finally acknowledge it's influence. (The score category bothers me particularly. Critics never made a big deal of it, and now we're left with loud, stale, boring orchestras. Mostly brass and wind. No identifiable E Guitar. (Morricone clearly used it in the opening overture of The Good, The Bad and The Ugly.) And to think, this all stems from not nominating The Third Man's score.)

*Gag* at Hathaway hosting. Seriously? I just don't get the decision.

Not thrilled with Hathaway either. She tries too hard and comes off like a musical theater major. She's trying to emulate Julie Andrews' Disney persona, or something.

um, Franco and Hathaway are going to be amazing. Just sayin'. Hoping for a Franco + Hathaway duet, tbh. Can he sing? He's prettier than a glob of butter melting on a stack of wheat cakes so I wouldn't even care.

Marisa Tomei...yay indeend. Hoping that Waltz and Monique return to present as well. It's a simple tradition, but I love it regardless.

Something tells me that Mo'Nique will say no to presenting duties this year...which makes me think that Tomei (a past Supp. Actress winner) will be taking over for her...

I'm an older guy - I hope they bring out some big stars - not ashton kutcher / jessica alba. how about shirley temple doing best pic. liza minnelli & joel grey - best director. warren beatty & faye dunaway - cinematog (bonnie & clyde won cinematog). leslie caron & louis Jourdan (gigi best pic 1958) are both still alive. how about the cast of american graffiti. julie andrews & dick van dyke - best song. oh well, im sure it will be these new stars i never heard of & who wont be around in 3 years.

jimmy -- yeah that always disappoints me too. Since I view Oscars as about history and legends, that's what ilike to see on oscar night. I don't care if they're way before my time. I think it's important to have the still living legends there. LIke i'd LOVE to see people like Luise Rainer hauled up there to announce awards, you know?

Luise Rainer would be amazing! It's insane how many legends are still kicking and yet fail to receive an invite year after year. I get chills just thinking about the fact that Miley Cyrus got to walk onstage while Lauren Bacall accepted an actual award from her seat. Cosmic irony of the highest order, that.

All I know is Mo'Nique better be there!

That Bullock and Bridges will be there doesn't tell anything about whether they'll go back to the old way of Best Actor/Actress. Last year they still held speaches for every nominee and THEN the previous winner came out to pass on the award. So there still could be speeches...

Philip -- don't hold your breath. As much as I am glad that she won (so so deserving), I'm sad that Mo'Nique will probably not view the history of Hollywood as important as her own self.

    R.M. - very true.
