Well they gave Scott Pilgrim some much-deserved love so I can't completely bash their choices. But yeah, a lot of suspect picks here.
Cher performing at the Oscars. Make it happen Academy.
Eww – this is the fanboy awards.
They won me with Social Network and Scott Pilgrim and lost me with Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and Alice in Wonderland. But hey, editing to Please Give! Interesting!
They love SCOTT PILGRIM, so I can't hate them...
Rapace for Best Actress 5th spot? Well, tons better than Swank...
Alice In Wonderland was beautifully done and well deserving of winning best visual effects. Who's Nathaniel R and who cares about his opinion?
EYESORE IN WONDERLAND... You got me laughing for like an hour with that, Nathaniel.
But yeah I thought it was a fine list of winners except for Wonderland, of course (and Noomi Rapace too - I don't GET all this love, I've seen the movieS and she's good but not great), but as someone already said, these are fanboy awards and nothing else.
No interest for predicting the Oscar nominations.
The reason I love the Satellite Awards is illustrated by the triumph of Please Give in the Best Film Editing category over Inception, Shutter Island, The Social Network, The Town, and Unstoppable. Weird, puzzling, and pretty cool.
I care about Nathaniel's opinions, definitely!!! ;-)
To give credit where credit is due, I think Colleen Atwood did some lovely work for Alice in Wonderland. It's not her fault Tim Burton surrounded those costumes with such ugly scenery, effects, and recoloring. I remember seeing the film with one of my friends, who is an excellent seamstress, and she talked about the quality of the costumes for weeks. The shapes, the textures, and the craftsmanship fought real hard to save Tim Burton from his ugly vision.
