Order Me Around
JA's fun "Make Me Watch a Musical" posts this past week have nearly inspired me to do the correlative "Make Me Watch a Horror Film"--though JA and I are friends it's a direct correlative: we mostly avoid each other's preferred genres, and we both have huge gaps in our film knowledge in those categories as a result (musical for JA, horror for me). But that sequel might have to wait a bit. There's some topics I've been meaning to write about that I promised some donors to deliver. I need a motivating shove so vote for which ones you're most excited for and that will spur me on ...in roughly the order you decree.

Sigh... I just rewatched Maurice the other day because it was playing at the Cinémathèque and there's nothing quite like the big screen... and now I'm rereading the novel again too. Forster sure knew how to create memorable characters, Merchant Ivory sure knew how to do English costume dramas though neither of them was a Brit and Hugh Grant sure knew how to act gay... which makes one wonder how in the world he could have become such a heterosexual sex symbol after having launched his career with this movie.
Since I only just saw Network last week for the first time (and its an insta-fave), I vote Network!
I voted for Network, because it's my favorite movie of all-time!!! I love the wonderful Paddy Chayefsk dialogues and the crazy characters played by Faye Dunaway and Peter Finch. Anyway, I also love other films on your list, especially "Julia", "Maurice" and "Touch of Evil"... I would really like to read about them.

Ha, you read my mind (or my nagging posts, rather. I've nagged a lot less recently, hast thou noticed?)
I don't mind a bit if you hold off on the horror thing - it's my least favorite genre too. Unless you do old school horror like "the Haunting". Blood and guts spattered across the screen is not "horror" to me, it's just gross.
And though I love the Piano, knowing your actressexuality and the way your way with words I voted for Geraldine. I haven't paid her enough attention and if anyone can make me it's you.

I voted for "Network" because I really want to see it. I'm actually unfamiliar with all the choices (le sigh) so whatever the consensus, I'll be a willing novice.
the piano. just because we need more jane campion these days. it would be wonderful if you took on the portrait of a lady instead though since i believe it's still her most expansive work thematically.

A wonderful idea, Ryan! POAL is one of my favorite films despite (or perhaps because of) it's many flaws?

yes. but still, a gorgeous film. and also, kidman was her most beautiful on film in this movie.
I voted for Geraldine Paige. A masterful actress, one of the finest, with a truly fascinating career.
Oh, come on. Do Darling anyway. Please?
