You have to love the Ziegfeld Theater in Manhattan. Check out their spring lineup. It's fun that they're starting their spring with musicals since there's no better place to see a showtune filled movie in NYC. There's always a ton of energy in the room and it's a massive space that often sells out... at least for the special events or opening weekends. I can't even begin to describe the elation of seeing Moulin Rouge! on opening night there or the oddity of standing in a huge line to see Barbra Streisand in a Funny Girl revival a few years back. Huge lines... for an old movie. I love this city. Here's a photo which probably doesn't give you enough sense of how big the space is. Big screen. Lots of seats. The way it should be.
The Ziegfeld is also where I had my one and only real life sighting of Michelle Pfeiffer (at the premiere of The Story of Us the year I moved to the city) so you know it's holy ground to me.

God, I can't wait until I'm old enough to move to NYC. Because I know I'd love it.
*sigh*
They showed Funny Girl? When??
The last movies I've seen at the Ziegfield were The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, Dreamgirls, Ratatouille, Casino Royale, and Sweeney Todd. I'm always in heaven when I see a movie there. Why don't I go there as often as I can? I hope the Ziegfield can remain open in New York.
Nathaniel, I know it's a little off topic, but I have to ask you this.
Those Oscar pages that you closed, can you "release" the link of the old images? 'Cause I wanted to make Oscar pages for the last years, and I was searching de FYC ads that you had in order to show the nominees.
Can you help me? o__o"
Todd Solondz sat right in front of me at the Ziegfeld on opening night of Blade 2. I have no idea why I was at opening night of Blade 2, much less him, or why it was playing at the freaking Ziegfeld, but it was awesome; I wanted to lick his neck.
Seeing the Indiana Jones trilogy at the Zigfeld in one massive sitting was by far one my best film going experiences ever. I can't describe the elation of hearing hundreds cheer the trailer for Lawrence of Arabia (the one where it marks "If you don't know what movie we're talking about, you better not miss it"). Amazing. Can't wait. I want to see every single one of these again or (in the case of Shine a Light, Iron Man and Indy) for the first time.
The Film Forum.
Hands. down.
For me, I would've LOVED to have seen 'Moulin Rouge!' there... being my fave film. But it was the premiere of 'Chicago' that topped my experience at the Ziegfeld.
I'm down for 'The Sound of Music'... who's coming with me?
I'm actually considering seeing The Sound of Music on Saturday evening because I haven't seen it on the big screen in ages. I hope they're not showing the singalong version.
I love what they show at the Film Forum but not their screens.
yes, film forum has great selections but my god. they just never renovate and it's so dumpy and uncomfortable.
marco sorry but i pulled all the images off the server, too. my overages were too expensive. I had too much stuff on the site.
if you shoot me an email i'll send you some photos if you want
On my last trip to NYC I just had to check out the Ziegfeld. Gorgeous place to see a film, even if it's a near-empty screening of Ang Lee's the Hulk.
