Djay, Truman, Ennis, Edward, and Johnny

Just when you thought it was safe ~ another quiz. Which Best Actor are you? [and no I couldn't possibly do this for every category. I am not yet that far gone.]

Also you can check out the freshly updated, fully stocked Best Actor Commentary Page at the main site for more of my thoughts on how each man got nominated, who is going to win, etc... And of course there's the usual heap of useless trivia. Like this: All but one of them are dads. The one who is not is also the shortest and he speaks fluent Spanish. See? You SO needed to know that! You know you did.

Heath's clip (and Jake's for that matter) should be from Jake's final scene.

David's should be the "we can not fight for freedom abroad yet abandon it at home" or whatever that line is. I cannot remember it exactly.

Am I the only one who thinks a lot of the females in the academy will be voting for Heath?

Want another fact about Heath? He's ridden horses in 7 of his projects. And if he rides a horse in The Brothers Grimm then the number is 8. Odd.

Man, Heath was on "Ship to Shore"! That show rocked my socks.

anonymous I am also both Capote and Mrs Henderson ! It'd be interesting to see how the Best Actor / Actress characters matched up with other people (Are all June's going to be Ennis, etc)

lizzie/ennis (seems like an odd pairing)

I am DJAY!

Talk about an odd pairing. Terrence Howard and Judi Dench here.

Glenn, unfortunately, I don't think there are THAT many females in the academy. But perhaps some of the men will be turned off by the uber-gayness of Capote and also vote for cowboy Heath? One can dream. I still think there's a way the endearingness of the role, and the Brokeback love, could tip it to Heath, but since he's one like nothing so far, I think that's kind of a pipe dream.

yeah we know the acting branch is probably 1/2 female but the technical branches, directorial branch, etc... heavily male. (Though I assume there are a good number of female editors and costume designers --the two tech areas where you see women's names pop up) but yeah, AMPAS is heavily white and male and older as demographics go.

do you really think this is the strongest acting category in the past 10 years? What about 2 years ago when the list exactly matched your top 5 (and came extremely close to mine) with Sean Penn, Johnny Depp, Bill Murray, Jude Law, and Ben Kingsley? That and the previous year (Brody, Nicholson, Day-Lewis, Cage, Caine) remain the gold standard in recent years for me.

yes. i prefer this list to the lineup in 2003 even though that line up was an exact match and even though Depp is my favorite by far of the past few years. (Just on the grounds that some years have more quality candidates than others) I also prefer it to 2002 though Nicholson, Day-Lewis, and Brody were indeed all stupendous. I prefer this quintuplet to that one (mostly because I prefer Phoenix and Hoffman (my 5th and 4th favorites in the Oscar lineup) to Caine and Cage in that year.

But then you have to remember that there are three other contenders that can syphon votes away from either Hoffman or Ledger.

(plz stop telling me there's no race there because i NEED there to be one)
