I love BEFORE NIGHT FALLS. It's such a gorgeous film- why doesn't it have more of a rep? I usually have little patience for biopics, but like other superlative genre offerings 32 SHORT FILMS ABOUT GLENN GOULD and JACQUOT DE NANTES, it takes an unconventional approach to its subject, and because of that illuminates much more than a standard structure might. And that balloon sequence, although indebted to Tarkovsky, is amazing. I can't wait to see what Julian Schnabel will do with his next film, starring Matthieu Amalric.

yes Schnabel directing Almaric should be very interesting. at the very least it'll look great and have a fine central performance

i wish Javier Bardem would do something else worth getting really excited about soon.

What, doesn't NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN qualify? By all accounts it's a return to form for the Coens. Or at least something more serious and less steeped in irony. And Bardem's character is creepy as hell.
