not an Indiana Jones movie; I refuse to accept it.

skillful in letting its audience forget that it can expect (much) more (pauses, three-dimensionality, silences).

good for what it is, but not as good as we wanted it to be.

a good installment into the series

...hopelessly irrelevant.

actually Indiana Jones and Son. Maybe they should open a funeral home for the 5th movie.

. . . about aliens (?), apparently. No thanks.

...kind of a lame title.

more fun than I expected.

...not as refreshing as Crystal Pepsi

obscenely over the top and terribly mediocre.

Spielberg is not Eastwood. You don't have to kiss his ass every time he puts his name on a product.

...well, I'm gonna just say that I am stuck in Palm Coast FL for the summer. I went to go see Indy at the only movie theater in town.

It's a 3 screen theater in a strip mall.

It wasn't even open. Like, there was nobody in the building. They didn't bother with a 9:10 screening.

I'm in Hell.

... best seen, for the experience rather than the movie, in a packed cinema with plenty audience participation.

The first half is actually quite fun. But altogether... I liked it. Raiders it is not, but did anyone honestly think it could be?

JS. You crack me up "exploited for a comment du jour" -TOTALLY TRUE!

terribly stupid and insulting to my intelligence, even more so because it comes from (supposedly) intelligent people.

...fun for two thirds of the runtime and then the action scenes go for too long, there's a ridiculous extraneous bug sequence ala King Kong and the end turns into a CGI nightmare of swirling rocks and over-the-top silliness.

Rob said...

fun enough, if underwhelming and hampered by an overly goofy second half.

y'all are definitely NOT making me excited to see this. But that's as I expected anyway. Why must we ruin great things through nostalgia?

Michael B. said...

Horrible. I liked the first 90 minutes but then it just falls about. Ford and Blanchett are superb though.

Rob said...

Um. You liked the first 90 minutes but the last 25 minutes rendered the whole movie HORRIBLE?

Nate Tyson said...

Just saw it...and had a pretty good time.

The aliens aren't really that strange when you consider that the first three movies were about preposterously unbelievable concepts.

Nate! Spoilers!

for the most part, ludicrously boring and silly... bad silly.

(now having seen it)

... surprisingly excellent. Awesomely weird, but awesome nonetheless. One thing though: Why is Cate so hot it it? *drools*

...photographed by Janusz Kaminski!! Who proceeds to bathe the film in gorgeous light! Words cannot describe how exponentially more excited I became about the film when I saw his name come up in the opening credits.

There's this one close-up of Cate (a standout) in which the frame is filled with this shimmering crystal light. Would make a great, iconic still from the film. I would LOVE a lobby card of that still, please!

. . . may be a perfectly innocuous "B" movie, but the relentless, bullying movie promotion used by rich, arrogant, powerful men used to being slavishly adored (or else) that demands I accept the movie as the embodiment of MY personal imaginative fantasy life is very off-putting.

Cheurch said...

.... not for me.

Ashley said...

hateful. insulting. preposterous. cate is WAY over the top and off in some different movie!
