That's Quite a Change

Jonathan here.

I don't get into posting movie news and I know Nathaniel doesn't either but I read this article at Variety about Tom Cruise dropping out of the spy thriller Edwin A. Salt only to be replaced by...

wait for it...

Angelina Jolie! Okay. So they're going in a totally different direction. I can respect that. But here's the part of the story that I liked best: "'Edwin A. Salt' will undergo a title change."

Some writers just don't miss a beat.

Most amusing, Jonathan. Of course, they could keep the title and just have a sequence where the incredulous supporting actor says "YOU'RE Edwin A. Salt?!" and Jolie says, "That's pronounced Edwina Salt". But her nickname is Assault, of course, with her old partner, Battery.

Anon - You're right! All they have to do is change "Edwin A. Salt" to "Edwina Salt" and they haven't even changed any letters.

I don't want to be mean. But what up!? You giving me two week old news? Nathaniel, I really miss you. No more hump day hotties either? Sigh.. Now it looks like in the Film experience anybody chimes in and there is not a consistent voice.

Anon - I was just pointing out the title change. I'm not into reporting news. Nathaniel is, alas, busy and I'm doing my best to help out while running a blog of my own. Hang in there.

It still doesn't beat when Javier Bardem pulled out of Tetro and was replaced by Carmen Maura.

Poor guy. I don't like Tom Cruise, at all, but I don't think he really deserves all the things happening to him lately.

Jonathan, the picture made the story.
And anonymous (my highschool bands name was anonymous) there are lots of places to get current news, we come here for the witty delivery!

jonathan "edwina" sounds so... i don't know fussy and old lady. But movie characters do get fancy with the names sometimes.

anon -- hump day hotties is just on late summer break. Be patient. Nathaniel (me) is in a rough patch right now and doesn't have as much time as he needs to muse about the movies. The guest bloggers (THANKS TO ALL) are helping to fill the void.

i do realize it's not as consistent as usual but that's not the guest bloggers fault. it's mine! things will get more structured again (I plan to return to all the "series" in mid September. Wheeee

iggy when this feeling is universal/mutual he'll have something of a comeback. he was too well loved for too long for this sequence of his career to last forever.

That poor screenwriter.

Fussy and old lady??? Nate, have you never seen Theatre of Blood, the Vincent Price film in which Emma Peel herself plays his daughter Edwina? Diana Rigg makes hoity-toity name into sex and sizzle. But she does that.

i haven't seen that film. And I don't mean to offend any Edwinas reading?

Any Edwinas out there?

I ask because at one point my name was uncommon and now it's way up there in popularity. So many little kids and teens named Nathaniel now. It's disorienting. I was the only one I ever knew until, like, college.

If they really do name Angelina Edwina in the movie, watch the name move up the baby charts
