First and Last and First

Depending on how you look at it... either of these could be the first post-opening credits image in the movie.

What's the movie?

If I use the last frame it's a dead giveaway -- click to embiggen for the memories

Highlight for the answer if you're still stumped: It's David Lynch's MULHOLLAND DR (2001)

Even the shot inside the car is a pretty big giveaway. I don't remember the purple sillohetts though.

yes, too easy i know.

i love those purple silhouettes. How on earth does David Lynch get away with so much randomness and yet his films always feel cohesive?

"a noble spirit embiggens the smallest man"

Gayest thing I ever heard!

I wouldn't have guessed it. I hate that movie. Granted, I only saw the last half of it, so maybe I'm missing something. But it seemed like the hollywood version of THE SHINING. I'm sure Hollywood is actually scarier than a snowed in hotel.

Something about how that tree is lit at night screams Lynchian.

The first one I didn't guess. Totally forgot about the opening shadow play.

Didn't need to click on the real last frame to know it was Mulholland Dr.

I always remember those silhouettes...

Oh my God. One of the first ones I for sure know and I'm too late. Oh man... Love love LOVE that movie, and I usually hate Lynch (INLAND EMPIRE was unbearable, Blue Velvet is a mess).

This movie is so great. Disturbing and beautiful and evocative. Haunting.

I love this movie. I totally could have gotten it too. The dancers the beginning, the headlights at the end. LOVE it. On a side note, I hated it the first time, but I "got" it the second time. The Club Silencio scene is one of my favorites of all time.

First one of these I knew, even without the final shot.

I knew it from that opening shot.

Still the best movie of the decade, too.

To say that David Lynch's films are cohesive makes just as much sense as George Bush (i.e. none).
