Patricia Clarkson Tells It Like It Is

In addition to being a world class actor, Patty Clarkson continues to be an irrepressible goddess: witty, classy, sexy and politically active. Here she is in New Orleans working it through a beautifully written very pointed speech about gay marriage in case you haven't seen it yet. It's funny, true and a little bit angry, too. Just as it should be. [via]

Amen, Patty! It's always worth spending 15 minutes with you.

P.S. If you're just joining us here at the Film Experience, don't miss the month long "Streep at 60" retrospective. Can you believe she's 60 next week?

I think I'm in love!! If she is serious, I want to be in New Orleans when gay marriage passes. ;)

Such a great orator; had me laughing and tearing up in the same speech. Loved everything she said especially about about how she finds it "intellectually offensive when people shrink the Bible to fit the small-mindedness of their bigotry."
My heart goes out to all the Americans who cant get married because of these Willy Lomans in power. There's a lot of support for gay marriage here in Canada and, like Patty said, the day is comming soon when every GLBT American can live and marry freely. :)

I know! I love the hanging out naked drinking bourbons promise. and i love that she ropes Rachel Maddow into her madness.

15 minutes ago, if anyone had asked me was it possible for me to love her anymore than I already do, I'd have said "Impossible!".

Huh. I stand corrected.

She is so gracious and bold at the same time. The joke about Condoleezza Rice was very funny. And the audience was crazy, they love her. Who don't?

I can't express how much I loved that speech and Patty. Bravo!

Thank you for posting that, Nat. I probably would've missed it otherwise. Patty's got a place to swing naked and lesbo out in at my apartment any time she wants it. Fuckin' brilliant.

I've started cutting myself today to take away my anger for not knowing what Imo means. IMO is being used every where I go. It constantly gets me on a bad mood. I first it was okay but know that it follows me its a problem. Please someone tell me what does Imo mean? Also all those faces at the top of the page are laying their heads on their hands.

"In my opinion".

Why aren't all people like her?
I didn't know why people here liked her so much but now I do! (I mean apart from her acting skills)

The joke about Condoleezza was priceless! I mean really, take away the looks and the 3 of them are the same thing.

She's amazing!

Imagine just how great her Oscar acceptance speech will be the day she finally grabs one...

So I wasn't having a great day, this helped. I long for the day I am no longer denied rights. I wish more celebrities would stand up as Patty has, the more public this movement becomes the better chance it has.

I hate patricia clarkson. This old hack is never gonna win an oscar. Ridiculous how anyone thinks she's talented. voice sounds like she has a raspy vagina. She's completely worthless. horrible work in "vicky christina Barcelona", "elegy", "lars and the real girl", and "jumanji" was just the dumbest acting work I have seen from a respected(don't know why?) actress. she just needs to go extremely far away.

That was wonderful.

I don't know if it is recorded, but I heard Cynthis Nixon speak a few weeks ago, and she was also really great.

Ok, here's Cynthia Nixon at the Pro-gay rally a few weeks ago. Not as funny as Patricia (I suspect that cynthia had no Bourbon), but certainly as poignant.

Absolutely brilliant! If we could just get across her thought of "Rather than worry about who somebody else loves and why, think about who you hate and why," things would be so much easier.

Coming from West Virginia--easily one of the most homophobic areas in this nation--intolerance against "my kind" is a daily battle. Fighting against the Bible-bangers, conservatives, and hateful bigots puts undue pressure, both legally and emotionally, on myself and any man I choose to love. This is certainly one of, if not the best pro-gay marriage speeches I have heard! Hats off to her!

I'll be honest. I teared up a lil'.
