First and Last, Far Away

first and last puzzles. Can you guess the movie?

last line:
"You'll see. You'll see how far away we'll be."

This one took a while for people to guess. It's such a good movie. The answer is [highlight the invisible text] BURNT MONEY (2000) from Argentina. Really intense crime drama about "the twins" who aren't twins but gay lovers. You should rent it.

I had the same guess as Julien...which is weird because I've never actually seen that movie! I just know of it.

Oh crap, I'm totally stumped, we all are. That boy is not beefy enough to be Christian in AMERICAN PSYCHO or Jake in JARHEAD. Is that Leo in BASKETBALL DAIRIES....wild guesses here.

That film has to be one of the steamiest I've ever seen.

I was gonna say the King with Gael Garcia Bernal. Not a very good movie, but a great performance.

I've seen this one. This director, Marcelo Piñeyro mad an even better movie, the F A N T A S T I C The Method. Noriega and Pablo Echarri deliver killer performances in both movies. In The Method there is also an incredible actor that I've never seen in another picture, Eduard Fernandez. I'd like to know more of his career.

The only reason I even know anything about the movie is because it always pops up as a recommendation on IMDB. lol I've read enough about it, I should probably get around to watching it!

Anf if we're talking about the performances in Plata Quemada, we can't forget, of course, Leonardo Sbaraglia. And the girl, too. This movie is so greatly acted.

I've never even heard of this film. Wow. Well, guess I'm going to have to try and see my third ever Argentine film.

Andrew, Argentina has made wonderful movies this last decade. My favorite is El Aura, a magnificent Coenbros-like perfect crime noir, starred by Ricardo Darín. It was directed by the same guy who made international hit, Nine Queens (remade in Hollywood as Criminal), Fbien Bielinsky, unfornately deceased years ago, soon after he made El Aura.

I'd also recommend the movies by Pablo Trapero (his best is a climatic faux thriller, El Bonaerense, but also Familia Rodante and Lion's Den), Daniel Burman (his Berlin entry El Abrazo Partido - Almodóvar stole his title - is superb and very very moving and funny, and also Family Law), and, specially all the three movie by festival sensation Lucrecia Martel.

This guy, Juan Jose Campanella, made fine movies, including his best movie, last Oscar winner The Scret in Their Eyes, but Luna de Avellaneda and Son of the Bride are also lovely.

If you really want to go deep into recent Argentine cinema, there are a lot of very good movies, like Historias Minimas, XXY, La Senãl (directed by Darín, fantastic performance in it)...

I think South Korea, Romania and Argentina had the best movies of the 00's.

@Cal-I've seen two Argentine movies, both this year. They were the two Oscar winners (Secret in their Eyes and Official Story). Both were great.

And if you're comparing Argentina to Romania in terms of 00s cinema, I better get watching.

I am comparing. Be sure of it.
