Amanda and friends @ the Beach

Amanda Seyfried (22, so pretty ~ I've entered a pretty trance ~ p r e t t y p r e t t y) ... and some other girls* walk along the beach for Vanity Fair

* Oh, don't take offense "other girls". It's just that I only have eyes for Amanda. And Anne and Kirsten and Lauren and Amy and Evan and Scarlett and... Amanda's photographic BFFs (they probably just met) would be Emma Roberts (17, Julia's niece and Nancy Drew), Blake Lively (20, of Gossip Girls) and scary Kristen Stewart (18, of Panic Room, Into the Wild, Jumper). What? She scares me. She just exudes need onscreen... whether it's the need to jump Emile Hirsch's bones or just the vague need for an undefinable something. I feel as if she might reach out of the screen and just >cling<>some gaping need' desperation kinda freaked me out in Jumper (previous post) and I think she was onscreen for about 16 seconds all told. s-c-a-r-y.

I get sick of hearing about Gossip Girls but I like Blake a little more upon hearing that her three favorite movies are Wizard of Oz, Moulin Rouge! and Romeo + Juliet. The girls are posing for Vanity Fair's annual Teen Hollywood issue. Which I had kind of forgotten about and which is vaguely distracting from my Vanity Fair retrospectives of plain ole' "Vanity Fair's Teen Hollywood". (Another one of those coming your way very soon)

You can see all eight of the photo spreads here... or, you know, buy the magazines. There are things called stores and they sell photos that you can touch on this stuff called "paper" it's really... well, it's something! I included this photo of Jonah Hill (Superbad, left) with Rachael Taylor (Transformers) and Amber Heard (Friday Night Lights) because it made me giggle in how well it illustrates that Hollywood top fetish 'schlub gets the hot chicks!'. Jonah can be hilarious but try to imagine this photo with Nikki Blonsky. It just wouldn't happen.

Now you can see rare celebrity portraits of larger women surrounded by hot men (I remember one of Rosie O'Donnell back in the day) and I'm sure there've been a few others but it's always portrayed as a kitschy gag and the men are of the nameless shirtless model variety. They'd never drape two of Nikki Blonsky's male peers over her. They just wouldn't. [insert Joan Cusack Addams Family Values voice here] "But what about Debbie's Nikki's needs?"

I've doctored a photo for you just to demonstrate the improbability.

yes - amanda is very very pretty. I saw "Mama Mia" last night. Sure destined to be among the worst of the year. Painfully bad / a chore to sit through...I could go on & on, but will wait til you're ready to post something on it. The one thing I will reveal - which in retropsect is kind of funny - everytime a song starts....they start running....running and singing. It's bad/bad. Not a good/bad.

Kristen Stewart is awesome! I dug her in Into the Wild, despite Sean Penn always trying to bury the good things in that film beneath his blunt, cheesy camerawork and home-fashioned political points that weren't in the book.

I think that "neediness" that you describes her as having could be put to marvellous use (only by the right auteur).

I've watched better Vanity Fair's photos.

I think Amanda has that "something" quality required to be remembered among the tons of blonde young actresses out there... personally I loved her as Karen in "Mean Girls" and I think she was pretty good in the ensemble of the drama "Nine Lives", but still... she needs another kind of role to trascend (my opinion) which is the same problem of Anne Hathaway (Anne is nice to watch but needs a good role soon).

My favorite young actress right now is Evan Rachel Wood. (Runner ups: Amy Adams and Emily Blunt. I can't deny the original love: Lindsay Lohan).

^^nickybeit, the in-depth analysis of Oscar's obsession with films that bound themselves within watered-down existentialism on your blog is quite intriguing.

Ah, Amanda... She's wonderful. But, ouch Nathaniel, I think can hear Kristen Stewart crying right now. I loved her in Into the Wild.

Kristen Stewart is only going to get scarier and more intense - she's going to be in that Twilight movie. What is more intense than pretending to be in love with a vampire?

NATHANIEL R said...

well, let's hope she fares as well as Sarah Michelle Gellar rather than Winona Ryder. Being in love with vampires brings out the best and worst in actors you know ;)

oh and mikadzuki ---you're probably right on Kristen needing an auteur. I'm scared to think how well Lars Von Trier could abuse her and DENY her whatever it is that she needs.

Poor Kristen!

I really love Kristen Stewart too. She was so good in the underrated (right? It's not just me?) In the Land of Women and The Safety of Objects, too. I'm glad she's being recognized along with the more flashy but less substansive girls like Blake.

I saw 'Mamma Mia!' last night, too, and while I don't think it was as horrible as Jimmy said, it certainly was nowhere near as fun as 'Hairspray'. (I expected to love the former and hate the latter, but the reverse was true.) Amanda did have the loveliest singing voice in the group, and her acting is not bad either. What big, beautiful pair she has!

eyes?

hands?

I meant eyes! (Although she does have lovely breasts, too, I guess.)

I actually really liked her in Panic Room. Although it may have just been the uncanny Jodie Foster resemblance.

there's really only one African American teen actor in Hollywood?

NATHANIEL R said...

Yes. that's all. Just one.

I've heard there's an Asian one somewhere too but they live in like Pasadena and that was too far for the Vanity Fair budget to allow for travelling expenses

It's all wrong but it's all white!

There's actually 2 there. Zoe Kravitz (whose parents are both biracial) is so light that she looks white.

That is a gorgeous photo. I ♥ Blake Lively.

Does Seth Rogen have a neck beard? Words fail me.
