...do you think catches the dog days of summer best?
(this question has been brought to you by Nathaniel's heat exhaustion. He's seriously not a summer person)

I don't know why but I thought of "The Sandlot" right away.
dog day afternoon?
The Sweet Hereafter
- Sean C.
My Girl! Just saw it on TV the other night. LOVE!
do the right thing? or dog day afternoon
body heat and do the right thing
I'll second The Sandlot.
"Slacker" comes to mind
another vote for "Do the Right Thing" as well
It's an odd choice, but "Monster" always reminds me of summer, and is a film I like to view in the summer months. I suppose it's a vicarious kind of thing: all that sticky heat and desperation with none of the consequences.
Little Children
"Hot enough for you?"
Do the Right Thing and... George Washington by David Gordon Green.
Do the Right Thing
As you can probably tell, I'm not exactly a summer person either.
Before Sunrise/Before Sunset. I'm not sure if those two are set in summer (looks like it at least!) but that's what it always makes me think of. Specifically the theme of the waltz in Sunset. The idea of finding someone who was everything you wanted in life gives me a similar dreamy feeling july to september usually does.
Also two others, but they only have summer as the setting partially, Requiem for a Dream, and Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter...and Spring. In the former the claustrophic apartment with the TV and the moving the TV across town makes me think of the grueling outdoor work I do in the summer. As for Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter...and Spring. The young lust in the summer part!
Stand by Me.
Vicky Cristina Barcelona? I dont know, it certainly was very red...
Hahahahahahaa @ 8:29 Anonymous.
For me, it's "Do the Right Thing", "Badlands" and "Wet Hot American Summer".
Movies that get me in touch with the humid sweltering heat of and agust day would be SUMMER OF SAM and CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF.
And is that Leo DiCaprio wearing Bjorks oscar swan dress!?!
Oh yeas Kurtis O, MONSTER is a good summer heat flick.
Dog Day Afternoon... Everyone is so damn sweaty in that movie...
"A Streetcar Named Desire." The steamy New Orleans summer is practically one of the main characters.
The Virgin Suicides. That shot of Kirsten Dunst waking up at dawn in the football field is so beautiful. I miss her :(
Seven year itch
Seven year itch
i second the virgin suicides! i thought of it while reading the OP. that dreamy, hazy, lazy quality of summer days and evenings. also vicky cristina barcelona. there's also an excerpt from brideshead revisited.

"The Wackness"
Hundstage (obviously), Tejut, Hamaca paraguaya and a recent Brazilian film I'm trying to remember the title of.
"Dog Days" itself!
The best film ever made by Ulrich Seidl.
Julian Schnabel's BEFORE NIGHT FALLS.
good choices.
but maybe i shoul dbe trying to think of wintry films to cool down.
Couldn't agree more that it's "The Sandlot" for me.
I am in a strange mood to watch the (newer) Ocean's 11.
I'm hoping (500) Days of Summer is soon one of my favorite summer movies, if only for the title.
Hopefully, I'm seeing it tonight.
Baixio das Bestas (Bog Of Beasts), that was the name I was looking for. Not very pretty, yet pretty good.
I immediately thought of The Sandlot, too. I miss that movie...
Do The Right Thing and Dog Day Afternoon are good choices, though.
The first part of "Atonement", Keira in see-through, McAvoy smoking...smoldering hot!
Law of Desire. That scene with Carmen Maura getting a... shower?
My Summr of Love.
"Psycho Beach Party" on a double bill with "Gidget", it's inspiration.
The seven year's itch. I always watch it in the summer. Marilyn's underwear in the fridge! Unforgettable!
porn. Any kind. Its all hot. Even the gay kind.
