FringeNYC ?

My press pass arrived in the mail this week for the annual Fringe Festival. I've been a few times over the years. Though I've never stumbled into something as brilliant as Urinetown (a famous Fringe alum) in its pupa stage, there's always that possibility. NY Theater has a handy preview by type. What should I see? If you're a NY reader do you ever go? Obviously I'll consider the musicals first but I might check out Alchemist of Light, a comedy of some sort (again... you never know) about cinematic pioneer George Méliès. When I first started getting into cinema, I got a kick out of Le Voyage dans la Lune (1902).

Surely you'll give Citizen Ruth the Musical a fair go.

I've been flipping through the schedule the past few days, rather disenchanted with the fact that I totally blew an easy opportunity to attain a pass, and report on the festival. Nonetheless, nothing is keeping me back from diving in.

I will try my hardest not to miss:
Abraham Lincoln's Big, Gay Dance Party
Candide Americana
Dream Lovers

The ones that pique my interest:
Art's Heart
Pie-Face! The Adventures of Anita Bryant
Ukrainian Eggs: Terrible Tales of Tragedy and AlleGorey
The W. Kamau Bell Curve: Ending Racism in About an Hour
Zipperface!!?!: The Hobo Musical

Ok, well, that's it for now--flipping through this program is a 24-hour venture, which is both exciting and frustrating (how can I work out a way to see all of them?

This blog post might also be helpful, if you're interested in listening to a producer (which, I'll admit, I'm usually not).

Make sure to take advantage of the FringeNYC SLICE-O-MATIC here:

http://www.fringenycdata.com/basic_page.php?ltr=num

And scroll down to PLAN YOUR STAYCATION (shows by theme - kind of like pre-planned tours)

You can also use the AUDIENCE TOOLBOX beneath that for a chronological list of the entire festival, as well as the list of which shows will be performing FringeNYTeasers as a part of FringeAL FRESCO or on the stage at the FringeCAFE at FringeCENTRAL.

And, of course, our hub, FringeCENTRAL is at 54 Crosby, between Spring and Broome and is open from NOON - 8pm every day.

Thanks, and enjoy FringeNYC - "New York's Best Staycation!".

The W. Kamau Bell Curve: Ending Racism in About an Hour is not to be missed. The show has been running for about two years out in SF and it is clutch-your-belly funny.

Kamau takes racism head on, and in this era of alleged "Post-racial America" the topic couldn't be more timely.

You can read what the West Coast has to say about it at wkamaubell.com.
