LOVE THE MOVIE! Lost in Translation has been popping in a lot of Best Film of the Decade lists..

Hhahaha... This shot always brings me back to when I saw Lost in Translation at the theater across the street from my college with a friend. We sat down, the lights came down, then this image pops onto the screen and the entire theater clearly hears this old lady from two rows in front of my friend and I exclaim, "Oh my!" It got a big laugh from a whisper-quiet crowd at that point.

I personally was like, "Wow!" I was taken aback that Sofia Coppola would open with this particular shot.

Such a great movie!

I love this film so much, my favorit

Now see, if a man had opened a movie with a shot JUST like this, it wouldn't receive praise. It wouldn't be beautiful in the same way.

It would give such a different view of the entire movie actually.

HOT. Please Scarlett, make good movies again in which you're hot but also GOOD. You can be good. You can be excellent, even: as here, in "Lost in Translation", or "Girl with a Pearl Earring" or "Match Point".

This is the only film I've ever liked Scarlett Johansson in, but I love her in it. I'm so mad that whole category fraud screwed her out of a Best Actress nomination. I've always thought it odd that she was the only part of that movie the Academy didn't nominate. I would've much rather seen them debunk her category fraud rather than Keisha Castle-Hughes's.

Now *that's* how you open a film...

i love the intimacy of that shot.

I also feel indifferently about this film. It is probably my least favorite of Sofia's work.
Also, I think it would have been better if she had opened with a shot of a boys bum (they're nicer to look at I think).

I, uh, "watched" this for the first time last night. I fell asleep within five minutes.

Not a quality judgment, I was just really tired. I'll try again soon. :)
