Leo & Kate on the Road

Those titanic lovebirds Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet are going to pair up onscreen again in an adaptation of the 1961 novel Revolutionary Road. Leo & Kate have moved on in years since Titanic so this time they're a married couple with children. They're still in period garb though, it being a post WWII drama. They'll be acting under the watchful eye of Mr. Kate Winslet himself Sam Mendes (American Beauty, Jarhead).

Give the amount of bank old media made obsessing on "Jack & Rose" expect everyone to go bonkers. Expect every mouth wateringly mundane piece o' info info from its upcoming production to spur tabloid craziness "Jack and Rose caught kissing!" etcetera... They'll try and drum up some extra sales. Filming begins this summer so we're probably looking at a 2008 release. That should give it enough distance from that other road title, Reservation Road which is also about unhappy married couples played by Oscar nominees --although the similarities probably end there. Wait wait wait. What? Is this for real? If so, they're going to win oscars.

Wait, is this FOR REAL? Where did you get this info? Isn't the 2007 Reservation Road from the same novel? I'm so confused. There are two totally different Reservation Roads now? Or is this some kind of bizarro wishful thinking joke post?

If they are in this movie and it's good, they are GOING TO WIN OSCARS. Unless it ends up being Meryl vs. Kate in 2008, in which case, all bets are off. That'd be a knock-down-drag-out battle. I don't want to have to pick a favorite of those two.

I have to say, seeing those Oscar party pics of Leo & Kate together a couple of months ago, it... well, it made me all tingly inside. I'm not even a huge fan of Titanic (though I am no hater, and usually find myself getting dragged into it whenever its playing on TV, which is way more often then you'd think a movie of its running time would be), but... they are a great match, and have chemistry to spare. So this does indeed make me giddy.

And I don't care who Kate is running against for her next Oscar - it could be my mother - Kate had better freaking win, or I will have the molotov cocktails ready.

well it's from VARIETY (the source link) so take that FWIW. they've made mistakes before (i actually found out that that false report i corrected on scarjo's place in woody's filmography actually sprung from variety. how they got that one wrong i don't know.

but it's not two reservation roads it's reservation road and
revolution road --two different titles.

This is the best news since Donald Rumsfeld resigned!!!!!!!!!

Kate should have at least three Oscars by now. Why? WHY?!?!?!?

Screw you Mira Sorvino, Helen Hunt, Jennifer Connelly, and Hilary Swank!! But not Helen Mirren. She actually deserved it.

The'yre going to win. They're unstoppable, just like Jennifer Hudson. They're going to make the TIME cover. It's a juggernaut.

(No time to comment the earlier posts, but see HUD now, and Jodie Foster will get an Oscar nod.)

Oh lord, this is perfect news for today.

9 years ago today, Titanic dominated the Oscars, winning 11 of it's nommed 14, tieing the record with Ben-Hur.

A new generation of DiCaprio and Winslet, or "DiWinslio," lovers shall swarm.

Oh, and doesn anyone know how good the source material is and could they actually win if they meet or exceed it?

"Revolutionary Road" is similar to "Little Children" in some ways.

Oh... and not to hinder on the, what's it called? "DiWinslio"-love fest, but Leo is probably miscast as Frank Wheeler.

OMG, I totally thought they were the same title. How stupid am I. But see how easy that is? I actually wouldn't be surprised if oscar voters got About Schmidt and About a Boy confused in their year.

But yes, they will win if this thing happens and "works." I had said long before hearing this news that at this point, what Leo and Kate needed to do to win oscars was star again together in a romantic drama. That is the hook they did. Hollywood and the public will go gaga.

My only worry is that Streep has at LEAST one film due in 2008 that looks likely to win her that third oscar. She is now as overdue as Winslet. I don't want to think about it.

OMG, could Revolutionary Road be a sweeper??? Pic/dir/screenplay/actor/actress? I want it to be 2008 already.

I read this book and it is the most god awful depresing "I think I shall go kill myself" novel ever - Kate wil be playing a socialite type - aspiring actress -Leo will be playing the ambitious but utterly immature hasn't a clue hate my job commuter into NYC - both think they are superior to everyone else in their town - and both feel utterly suffocated by the life they chose - the film centers around their relationship with another couple and completely tragic disastrous self imposed misery ensues - a total downer - that is also reminiscent of the themes of Little Children and American Beauty - while Kate will be great - Leo seems miscast and I recall reading that Kate desperately wanted Matt Damon to play this - wonder what happened with that ? - yeah it does have Oscar written all over it - buuuuut - it is such a downer and the characters are not terribly sympathetic - sooo - maybe not

Now, unlike Keanu and Sandra in The Lake House, this is a "reunion" I wouldn't mind seeing. Leo and Kate are both far better actors now than they were when they starred together in Titanic, and as long as the script is good, I think I'll actually catch it in the theatre.

Well, it's being directed by Sam Mendes so I have big faith (I wasn't that crash hot on Jarhead though tbh).

But, yeah, Kate and Leo!! I read this earlier and was all "omg!!!"

Wouldn't that be a delicious treat to have Leo and Kate finally win oscars for playing opposite each other 12 years after doing the same thing made them stars.

Now, we just need to hope that Hilary Skank doesn't pop up between now and, oh, 2009.

Revolutionary Road is one of the most depressing books about unhappy young couples ever written. Should be boffo B.O. The stigma of Titanic should be washed away with this one.

I agree with every word of this post except for one thing: Helen Hunt's Oscar belonged more to Judi Dench (for "Mrs. Brown") than Kate.
