Uma & Annie

Something I never thought I'd see. Or, rather, something I never thought to imagine seeing -- Annie Lennox and Uma Thurman dancing together at a Nobel event in Norway. Two of my favorite people in one of my favorite places. It's like a message from the cosmos to cheer up... or maybe boogie down.

Aside: Can't QT give Uma a cameo in Inglourious Basterds? She needs him now more than ever post Accidental Husbands & Super Ex Girlfriends...

What do you suppose they're dancing to? Annie's "Sisters are Doing It (For Themselves)"? Uma's "If You Got It, Flaunt It"? Annie's "SexCrime" (on account of Uma's it-ought-to-be-illegal sex appeal?) Your guesses are welcome in the comments. If you ever danced with UMA what song would you request for soundtrack accompaniment? That's something you can think to imagine.

I think Uma will have a mini come-back next year, starting at Sundance where her new film "Motherhood" has its world premiere.

It could be the feel-good indie that could of the year (always a bit female-centric)

it's produced by Christine Vachon, who always seems to produce interesting quirky indies, which gives me hope for this one.

I think she's also shooting Eloise in Paris in february, but i'm not sure.

I want her to be back on the awards circuit

Can it be a live concert of Bjork singing "Human Behavior", dancing with my closest friends and Uma,at a private party, in the Piazza in Venice, on a full moon? Oh, Annie can come too.

Can it be "Burning Down the House" by Talking Heads, my numero uno song to get down to?

it can be whatever you want it to be. That's the best part about imagined festivities!

WALL•E just won another critics' award. Boston. Except it was tied with Slumdog... wierd. Seems like the critics' awards for best pic will be spread around this year. Slumdog, WALL•E, Milk, and probably The Wrestler before they're all done.

Gus Van Sant won director. Penn and Rourke tied for actor. Milk won for screenplay. Ledger, Hawkins and Cruz won again. Looks like their sweeping.

Probably not the place to say so but... don't you think The Reader belongs somewhere above #10 in your predictions considering it's been nominated for the Golden Globe, the BFCA, and was in the NBR top ten? It's one of the 4 films this year that has managed that... I realize you don't think it will be nominated, but I definetely think the precursors are pushing it forward...

Oh, god. I love them both so much. Those pictures are like gifts from heaven.

I'm really surprised that you think Angelina Jolie is a solid bet. Although my predictions would look just like this.
And I'm dying to see both "WALL-E" and "The Dark Knight" in the mix.

I'm EXTREMELY Happy(-go-lucky) for Sally Hawkins getting all the recognition, especially as I expected all the critics' prizes to go to either Kristin Scott-Thomas pr Mellisa Leo. And despite all my love for Kate Winslet and Meryl Streep and all my goodwill towards Anne Hathaway: Poppy is, for me, the winning performance of this year. Mike Leigh can really do wonders with his leading actresses.

Why is The Dark Knight such a big deal. I truly don't get it. Sure it has some moments, and Heath Ledger is great in it, but Iron Man was much better film.

Better writing, better acting, better directing, better editing..etc. Unfortunately i think Iron Man was eclipsed in the Batman hype.
