What are you seeing this weekend?

Bollywood's My Name is Khan? Benicio as The Wolfman (my review)? Percy Jackson & The Uma: With Snake Hair? And don't you think it's weird that they're opening Valentine's Day on the 12th. It's as if they're announcing that it only has three days of business in it tops and then its one for the dumpster. Maybe you're just enjoying a long weekend sans cinema. Or are you catching up on Oscar films or classics on DVD?

What will it be. Share in the comments. I think I'm watching The Lost Weekend for the next BPFTOI episode. And maybe The Hurt Locker again.

I'm catching up with missed Oscar nominees on dvd. Tonight District 9. Rest of the weekend perhaps Up, Coraline or El Secreto de Sus Ojos (Argentina's candidate)

And throughout the month I'm trying to fit in the nominees that have just come out here on the big screen: Up in the Air, The Hurt Locker, Precious and A Serious Man (which will have to wait until April when I'll get a chance to see it un-dubbed)

I'm catching up with nominees too. This weekend, probably A Serious Man and Crazy Heart, and whatever else I can find/have time for.

I'm from Canada so I think I'm going to make it a John Hughes weekend because 1) It'll be valentine's day and 2) apperently it's John Hughes month on MPIX. Should be decent.

Mardi Gras in New Orleans. No movies until maybe later in the week.

i'll be watching my usual pam grier v-day marathon.

this year's version includes jackie brown, coffy, foxy brown, sheba baby, friday foster & black mama/white mama.

if i'm still feeling unfulfilled when that's over, there's always the great trio of 80's blacksploitation: coming to america, i'm gonna get you sucka, and (my namesake film) the last dragon.

amen!

I'll be away, but I'm going to try and see Percy Jackson sometime SOON. I've read the books because I'll read whatever's popular no matter what the age group. And I enjoyed them a lot.

Going on a binge for home movies, though-I'm renting 4 of the Best Picture nominees I haven't seen off of iTunes. I missed a lot of movies that came out earlier, so those are the ones I'm renting.

Lost Weekend is the best film of 1945 and fully earned Best Picture (though it was a lackluster year), so enjoy it! Makes me wish I had gotten that far in rewatching every Best Picture winner, but I'm way behind-only gotten through the first 6. I'm desperate for free movies.

Probably The Wolf Man, despite the poor reception. I was going to go to NYC this weekend and see A Prophet, but that fell through (FSAHFKJSHAKJDHASSFD!!). Now I have to wait until March 5th, Oscar weekend, to see it, and it sucks. Oh well, at least Shutter Island is out next week!

Right now, I'm watching All That Jazz for the first time ever and wondering why precisely it took me so long to bask in its brilliance

Finally going to watch the Inglourious Basterds DVD I received for Christmas. Am tempted to catch The Last Station, which just opened in Austin, but ... am deciding if I *really* am interested in the movie or have just been convinced I am interested in it because of its Oscar nominations. I've spent too much money this month already on the latter. Not that I'm the only one here with that trouble!

I don't know - I'm so confused.

Precious has finally made it to my local independent cinema, with A Single Man on the other screen.

I still haven't seen Invictus, and I've built up expectations about Bradley Cooper and Patrick Dempsey in my head and I don't want to miss Valentine's Day because of that.

I can probably only get to two of these in one day and - due to the rubbish public transport system here - I won't get another chance until next weekend when Crazy Heart, The Last Station and The Lovely Bones all open...

Can someone please help me make my mind up before it explodes Scanners style.

I have to watch on dvd Antichrist and District 9, which I've missed in theaters.
But I also have two old classics to spend the night with: Suspence, with Deborah Kerr and Caligari... My night will be full of nightmares I suppose...

Nothing. The most challenging thing I'm seeing this weekend will be the Goya awards, which will air for the first time without commercial breaks. I'm really curious to see if I can sit through the whole thing without breaks (I probably won't be able). Until now they were aired much like the BAFTAS, delayed and edited.

I've been catching up with Nine, Up in the Air, The Hurt Locker and The Road and I feel I need to rest from movies for a while. Or maybe I just need to see a good comedy, for a change.

I already saw The Wolfman this afternoon so I'll be seeing Percy Jackson either tomorrow or Sunday. I should catch up on all the movies I saved on my DVR from TCM but I probably won't be doing that, lol.

I am going to be watching My Name Is Khan because of all the hype and controversy surrounding the film. There are some crazy things going on in India because of this movie as we speak. So definitely gotta give it to King Khan for this weekend!

Totally unrelated but would love to know what people think...

What would this year's Best Actor race be like if Freeman hadn't won one for Million Dollar Baby? Would be he in the discussion more for a lifetime achievement winner against Bridges or would he still be a nominated, no way he's winning entry?

I'm moving house this weekend so no movies for me, although I got Ferrara's Bad Lieutenant and ChanWook Park's Thirst sent to me on Friday so I have them to watch whenever I get to them.

I just watched a movie in the rep theatres every day since the 4th. I just did The Thin Red Line. Sunday is The Death of Mr Lazarescu. Saturday is a well deserved sabbatical, or probably SNL.

I'm planning on watching The Last Detail tonight.

It's Reading Week at my university. And I've taken this as an opportunity for a crash course in the French New Wave. First up are The 400 Blows, Breathless, and Jules & Jim.

Yesterday I watched european critics darling LOURDES (a very good and kind movie about faith and miracles) and if I lived statesides (or in India) I would watch MY NAME IS KHAN...I'm not king of bollywood Shahrukh Khan's greatest fan (I'm an Aamir's fan) but his partner Kajol is a wonderful actress!

I'm checking out 'The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus' on Sunday.

Today I looked at my netflix queue, realized 'The Cove' was coming to me, and immediately regretted that decision to move all Oscar-nominated movies to the top. I just have no descire to watch it, and movies should not feel like homework.

I had a riveting start to my cinematic weekend by watching Exte: Hair Extensions from one of my favorite horror directors Sion Sono. The amount of suspense and horror created from killer hair extensions was incredible, especially considering how often the film intentionally went with pure camp.

I know I want today to be all about writing and editing and submitting, but I'm sure I'll get sucked into something else. I'm leaning towards going through some of the Universal The Wolfman collection to quell the urge to see the remake.

Ever since I started reading your site I'm catching up with gems that escaped me. This weekend it's INLAND EMPIRE.

Lara -- happy to hear about your catch up time. But good luck on INLAND EMPIRE (reactions vary)

Rebecca -- yeah that sometimes happens in oscar season.

I'm already calling "hands-off!" on doing Uma as Medusa's profile for next year's supporting actress blogathon.

She had me at "I used to date your daddy" (gave me a "she sounded like Ursula" moment with that line reading). It's only about 25-45% endearing hamming compared to her Poison Ivy but still, enjoyable!

I watched My name is Khan. I liked it. Thanks for the mention on the blog, Nat.
