Are you a recent convert?

She was fantastic. But dolls? They really made dolls? And people bought them?

Apparently. People will buy anything. (Admit that, were it possible, you would buy Matt & Björk dolls, especially if they came with removable thighs and shin muscles.)

Naturally. And, of course, there is such a thing:

(although the removable thighs and muscles would be super-cool!)

i am a recent convert. i loved it. omg. nobody talks about this. I'm sorry but it wipes the floor with stella dallas (in the sacrificial mother sweepstakes)

i felt like anything could happen. especially after the scene from which this image is drawn. how often do movies feel that open with possibility?

exactly. Happily, more people talk about it than you'd think, or than I thought. When I met Matt Kennedy, he told me that lots of people had fallen all over themselves to help him write that book. But it's true, even among Oscar mavens like ourselves, Dressler and the movie both have amazingly low profiles, given what they were at the time. I'm so glad you liked it! (And how about Marjorie Rambeau as Bella? They should have invented Supporting Actress for that performance!)
