Thank You For Linking

Miami Herald on the "X"s in The Departed. Cool. [src]
Tom O'Neill on the SOAP honors: groupthink and category fraud.
Center of Gravitas a love/hate relationship with Ugly Betty.
The Gilded Moose A message from Warren Beatty
Glitterati Lindsay in rehab. I've tried not to care but I still do. Get well LiLo
NYT Oh happy day. The execrable Beauty & The Beast is closing on Broadway. To make room for The Little Mermaid but still... That couldn't be any worse, could it?

And just because I've been madly in love with him for years, here's Rupert Everett on "The View" and also reading a portion of his new Hollywood dirty laundry autobiography Red Carpets and other Banana Skins which I assume is his way of saying 'I don't care if I ever work again'

I actually feel sad about the Lindsay news. Sure, she brought it on herself but it's not like anyone in her life (like her mom) tried to help her.

Gosh, that Rupert book is frightfully well-written.
"And so my mother bought the fateful tickets and unknowingly guided me through a pair of swing doors and into the rest of my life..."
Nice.

I'm happy that Lindsay is getting help and soon enough when people make jokes about her being a drunk coke-snorting partier us Lindsay supporters will be able to call them out on it.

It's a very rare thing when I agree with Tom O'Neill, and while I don't think these SOAP things are as bad as he makes them out, they're certainly not as exciting as they should be. If the nominees were like the nominees at the FB awards, then definitely, but that's the problem with groups (no matter than size). There's bound to be certain titles that just overlap and others that are very person-by-person. So, in the end, it does just seem like yet another award group that don't have an individual voice.

Moving on...

Tom's article is hilarious to me. Who's honestly that proud to have written the FIRST BOOK!!! on the TOP THIRTEEN movie awards? I love movies, awards, and lists, but come on.

He makes a lot of great points, but I'm hugely skeptical of his analysis of how awards influence each other. As in, Rocky won because of LA, Annie Hall won because of NY... does anyone really buy that? I don't see it as so much of a cause-effect situation.

i think the argument there is that everything informs everything else and that I would agree with.

this is not meant to insult anyone in particular but people are basically sheep... we've all been guilty of it at one time or another, assuming that everyone else is correct and going along with the groupthink.

so once one important voice says something it has a way of rippling out into other things.

Yeah, definitely. These days, you'd think there'd be less of a general concensus because there are so many groups, yet they all seem to be the same save for one or two choices.

Also, how on earth can they do The Little Mermaid on stage? Same goes for Finding Nemo, which I read is being put onto stage.

I too kind of feel bad about LiLo, especially with a deadbeat dad and a deluded mother who keeps mouthing off and spouting nonsense, like she has any credibility whatsoever. (Dina sweetie the jig is up!)
