California Mountain Link

MTV Kill Bill 3? Daryl Hannah shouldn't tease me this way. I love Elle Driver too much to breathe properly when she's mentioned.
My New Plaid Pants "The Golden Trouser Awards" I love these every year. So fun
Cinema Blend reminds us why Avatar isn't really the #1 movie of all time. There's more than one reason. There's a few.
Bright Lights After Dark on James Cameron's signature motif: The Artificial Body.

Deadline Hollywood Terrence Malick to start filming his Tree of Life follow up already? No movies for decades and then four in a twelve/thirteen year span? What invader snatched his body?
By Ken Levine a tribute to the resilience of actors. It's hard out there. (This sorta puts those Oscar nominations into perspective. As in: just even being in the conversation, even if you were eliminated early on. That's gold)
Cinema Styles really hates Up. But has truly thought the position out.
Movie City Indie "Obligatory Generic Oscar Morning Report." So funny.

"That's right. The old guy who never did what he promised Ellie until he had to escape prosecution is the hero. The old guy who stuck by his word for all these years is the bad guy."

Fuck, I never thought about it like that before....

I agree with everything Greg said in the Up article. I love Nemo and Wall-E and really like all the other Pixar films too, except Up. I'm really disappointed it's their first to receive a Best Picture nomination. I thought the story was really terrible and actually sent out a bad message to kids.

I LOVE the idea about a third Kill Bill movie, but I thought it was supposed to be Vernita Green's daughter seeking revenge against The Bride for killing her mother. Maybe the idea was scrapped.

She posted it, LOL!

And I thought the real Marsha Mason was dead.

While I'm not anywhere near as negative towards Up as the writer of that article, I gotta agree with several things in it. I've been so skeptical of people who say they bawled during that opening sequence. Like, you have NO IDEA who those people are. NONE. And you're crying over them? Do you cry over every single sad item on the news?

Wow, Greg really didn't get Up.

"That's right. The old guy who never did what he promised Ellie until he had to escape prosecution is the hero. The old guy who stuck by his word for all these years is the bad guy."

Okay, have we never lost someone dear to us? Has it never left us feeling aimless and lost? And this guy was married to her nearly his whole life, so that paralysis can only multiply. His love for her was represented by the house. That's why he finally took drastic action. It wasn't escaping prosecution, it was him keeping Ellie with him (taking the house).

As far as Muntz being the one that stuck by his word and got labeled a bad guy: have we never seen anyone so consumed by their goals that it changed who they were? This guy's obsession with redeeming himself ended up altering his methods until he became a flat out killer. Extreme? Yes. But in the world of this film, it's plausible. So to be more accurate, the above quote should be:

"The old guy that held on to his wife the only way he knew how is the hero. The old guy that degenerated into a killer is the bad guy."

Done.

Silencio hit it right on the nail.

Hmm, that's a good point, too, Silencio. I suppose one could also argue that Muntz's plot to kidnap the bird alive was still evil since he was separating it from its children and natural habitat.

I know this sounds weak as hell, but I can honestly see both points of view on Up.

....I still want Fantastic Mr. Fox to win Best Animated Feature.

i don't get the urge to asterisk Avatar's records. no one said it broke the record for most admissions (Titanic didn't either, but nobody points that out). it broke the record for highest grossing film, which it indisputably is, and that measurement inevitably favors newer films. the steroids analogy is just wrong.

I don´t like Greg´s article, I think it´s really twisted and mean. I also think he didn´t get UP. I think what Silencio says it´s clearly the message of the movie. And it´s ridiculous what Greg says about the assistants, they´re trying to mmove him away from the love of his life! I don´t mind how gentle they are for God´s sake!! Please, it´s a movie!! Do we have to be so politically correct? And it´s a real reaction of old people who everyday are going to asylums. This is a story of an old guy who is trying to make his dreams come true!! And it´s a movie about a house that flies with balloons, do we have to be so realistic. What is great about Pixar are they adult feelings without renouncing to magic. And yes, I cry in the beginning of the movie, because it´s life, I don´t need to know them but I feel like I did, thanks to all these emotion, the use of music and animation, those details that make a couple feel alive year by year...When you see those things in a movie, and in an animation movie, without talking, although we know them for a couple of minutes, we can´t help crying, because love to life and love to love and love to great cinema are so real in those minutes, that the normal reaction is crying. Pixar is wonderful, pure magic.

Excuse me for my awful English, I´m Spanish and in a second reading I´ve detected lots of mistakes. I hope you undertand it when you read it.

And of course, I can´t understand people who says that movie hasn´t a good message, I love Pixar messages, I´m dying to have children and put them all those wonderful movies and educate them with those amazing films... And tell them that an ogre farting is an easy joke. Maybe they will be a bit know-all, but I will love them so much...
