Map of the Oscar World

The map below is courtesy of yours truly, Nathaniel. Don't say The Film Experience doesn't work its ass off. We work all the blogging angles. It appears that after year's of Australian dominance Canada wants revenge! And that's just one story embedded herein. You can find out where the Precious players were born, see that Kathryn Bigelow and Jeremy Renner were in close proximity long before they made The Hurt Locker The Sexy Locker, and note how lonely Penélope Cruz looks all by herself in Spain. There's so much to see.

Feel free to share this map with your friends. Send it. Tweet it. Digg it. IMDB recommend it. If you love something, set it free etcetera...

Do you have any films or stars born within arm's reach? I'll keep editing it if people feel like they need more. Which movies would you like to pack up and move yourself closer, too? Strap some balloons to your house and go.

UP's Paradise Falls were inspired by Venezuela's Angel Falls, the world's highest waterfalls. Pete Docter has been there in 2004.

Nathaniel this is GREAT!!!OMG, at first time I didn´t get it, but then I start to investigate and it´s fantastic! Thank you very much! You´re the best, you really take care of us, this is too much! I´m having a good time trying to guess who is who, I´ve guessed some of them! Loving Renner and Bigelow so near...Sexy Locker ghetto, I want to belong there! Missing a lot of people, but blame the Academy!

I have always wondered why the Canadian actors don't really get the Oscar's attention like their counterpart from Australia, with greats like Plummer and Sutherland. And then there're Carrey, Catherine O'Hara and co who more than deserves a nom or two by now. Maybe with the exception of Carrey there aren't any movie stars that wow on screen?

But perhaps I am more interested in seeing how the young talents from Canada do in the future, with names like Sarah Polley (Queen Kristina!), Ryan Gosling, Rachel McAdams, Ellen Page, Neill Blomkamp... plus the usual like David Cronenberg (The Talking Cure), Atom Egoyan...

That's amazing!

So much action in South America this year! (Not just UP but AVATAR seems to have been partly inspired by the Amazon jungle).

I always forget that Tarantino is a Tenneessean, and as it turns out, he's from closest to my homeland! I knew I was rooting for him for a reason.

Great map. How about a shout-out to Oscar's snub of The Cat Piano for Best Animated Short in "What Gives Australia?" I still can't see how The Lady and the Reaper and Granny O'Grimm got picked over it.

Katey -- i always forget that, too.

sadly no Michiganders this year. Or Floridians. But my dad is from Minnesota so at least I got the Coen Bros.

Well, here in Denmark we can brag about having Lone Scherfig directing 'An Education' to a best picture nod (first time ever for a Dane), Anders Østergaard directing the nominated documentary 'Burma VJ' and Joachim Back directing the nominated short film 'The New Tenants'.

Oh, and if 'Brothers' had been nominated I could brag about the fact that Connie Nielsen, who starred in the original Danish film 'Brødre', grew up in the same samll town that I did! (I guess I'll brag about it anyway... :D )

matt -- i've added some Asia details now :)

George Clooney should be moved a bit further north, almost in Cincinnati rather than Lexington.

Woody Harrelson, Allison Janney, Ruby Dee, and Debra Winger all hail from my state: Ohio!

James Cameron has a cottage or something in the town next to mine in Hockley Valley, Canada. In fact he named the guy from Titanic Caledon Hockley after the two.
