Ooops

The dog ate my homework. Actually, the cat knocked over the flower vase which sent water pouring all over the computer at 5:45 AM. Seems the cat killed the mouse (har-dee-har-har) so... not sure about speed of posting today. Valentine mishaps. What topic do you want to hear about on the blog? No guarantees it'll be covered but I'm curious as to what's on your mind. Besides the Oscar race, that is.

Not film related, but any thoughts about the upcoming Broadway season?

Or the news that I found on EW.com about Kathryn Bigelow directing an HBO pilot about a Broadway composer.

Just some thoughts!

I was watching Kill Bill again the other day (of which I still consider it to be one big movie)
and it got me to thinking what other Epic 3+ hour long movies do I or other people enjoy?

Just saw Whip It. Probably my second fav film of the year other than "The Hurt Locker". Never been an Ellen Page fan but I felt her Babe Ruthless was a lot more authentic and surprising than Juno MacGuff. I've also been thinking about Streep and how she needs to win. She just needs to. Even though Sidibe deserves it... Bullock is really not as bad as people are making her out to be though. Sure the performance is not as dramatic or as forceful as are typical in oscar-winning performances but I really felt her commitment to the scenes where it bugs her to see a kid on the street with his t-shirt, her annoyance at her friends ignorance at lunch etc. I also appreciate her attempts to stretch and not just give a star performance like I'm sure Roberts or Aniston would have done. Other than that, I've been thinking about how Benning or Kidman will win Best Actress next year...

Which one of Leonardo DiCaprio's upcoming movies has a better chance at showing up in the 2011 Oscar Race, Shutter Island or Inception? Shutter Island has been getting pretty good reviews and they're trying to pull a Silence of the Lambs. However, Inception is directed by Chris Nolan who was snubbed for his work with the Dark Knight, and that movie seems like it will not disappoint.

You should do a piece on the various actors that are also spokespeople for different companies. Recently there has been some rather interesting partnerships like, Jeff Bridges with Hundai, Zooey Deschannel with Cotton,Luke Wilson with ATT, and the most odd of them all Ellen Page with Cisco. How will these ads help/hurt their career, especially with people like Luke Wilson and Ellen Page. Or will it do nothing for these actors at all.

You had a vase with water near the computer? Nathaniel... :(

I would like to read what you want to see in the cinema. Which directors/screenwriters you want to take on which stories and which actors take on which roles. Real or fictional stories.

I would also like to know which actors (of the same or different gender) you want to see as screen couples?

Also, (stop me now) which famous, supposedly dramatic scenes you found ridiculous.

I love this. I can wish for anyhting and at least one wish might come true!

I'm curious if The Hurt Locker vs Avatar Oscar rivalry is the new No Country For Old Men vs There Will Be Blood. It seems each camp doesn't have a level of mutual respect for the other similar to 2 years ago when we all were debating which was the "true" masterpiece. 2007 was such a golden age of Oscar punditry.

I'd like to see you revisit classic cinema more. Maybe even look at an entire director's filmography from that era.

Also, are you planning on doing anymore podcasts before the Oscars? I know they must be a lot of work, but they often make for fun/smart awards season commentary.

I've never heard what's your thought on Do The Right Thing
I saw it a few months ago, and it instantly became one my all time favorites.. definitely in the top 10.
Have you seen it? Or last time you saw it was a long time ago?? If so, you should watch it again right now.

Are you watching the Olympics nat? Sould be fun watching Johnny Weir compete tommorrow. Believe it or not I trained with him up until he left Delaware (yes I was once the rare breed that is a male figure skater). He's certainly far more restrained in person, but nevertheless he sure puts on a show!

I liked both No Country and There Will Be Blood pretty much equally, as my mood during the day will dictate which one I think is better.

I wasn't too into The Hurt Locker and was bored silly by Avatar.
Go Basterds and A Serious Man!
