Fantasy Casting Couch

Hi all, tim r here, guesting from mainlymovies. This is following up on a suggestion down there in the comments somewhere: parts you've always wanted your favourite actors/actresses to play. Nat's dream is for Toni Collette to do a biopic of Liza Minnelli. My dream is to see Peter Sarsgaard do Iago, or failing that, for Annette Bening to play Liza's mum. See below for the obvious sense this all makes. Now let's have some of yours!

Toni as Liza? Hell yeah! However, does she sing well or would she have to lipsynch like Angela Bassett in that Tina Turner biopic?

This is a bit of a non-sequitor, but how about a "History of" the two 'Muriel's Wedding' gals? We know you love Toni (and who doesn't?), but what about Rachel Griffiths? Personal fav of mine.

Wow. If facial structure and that proposed Australian rock tour are any indication, Toni'd make a kick-ass (and strangely believable) Liza...

I'd like to see, if I were casting my favorite actors in biopics, probably something like two biopics of these movie stars:

1. Kate Winslet would star as the tormented, but beautiful Vivien Leigh, Ralph Fiennes as her paramour Laurence Olivier, and Jude Law as her young lover Peter Finch. The film would have several celeb cameos, but would focus primarily on the demons that Leigh faced, and her relationship with Fiennes. Ten bucks says that Kate would win the Oscar.

2. I'd put Jake Gyllenhaal in a biopic about Sal Mineo, with James Franco reprising his role as James Dean, and Natalie Wood being played by...ooh, who can I say without being accused of blasphemy? Any suggestions from anyone?

I don't know... I loved Natalie and it is hard for me to think of anyone now who has her presence... In the miniseries, The Life and Death of Natalie Wood, the actress playing her was alright, but not great.

I've always believed that, based exclusively on looks, Naomi Watts and Charlize Theron would be perfect as Bibi Andersson and Liv Ulmman in some sort of "Persona" remake, or the life of Ingmar Bergman, since remakes, especially of such a masterpiece shouldn't even be considered.

In my opinion, Diane Lane would make a perfect Natalie Wood. I realize she's 40+ years old now, but she's still very youthful and sexy. Plus, she's a terrific actress who needs an encore worthy of her Oscar-nominated 'Unfaithful' performance. Just a thought...

ITA about Collette, but I don't think the Garland thing needs to happen. Mainly because Blanchard and Davis did it so perfectly and I don't think it could be done that great again.
