Yet another example of how I don't understand movie marketing at all.
I lurve this concept for a movie but the trailer feels too generic. Like a lukewarm "find yourself!" comedy. Even if it is lukewarm (it might be), you're supposed to disguise that. The way they disguise everything and sell the wrong movie constantly. Like that trailer for The Road (which is 100% ridiculous since big action setpieces and thrills is not the tone of the movie whatsoever. People will be so angry when they're watching it.)
And why the missed opportunity to have like character freeze frames and make it look raucously entertaining / funny like "Drew Barrymore is 'Smashley Simpson!'" etcetera. For the millionth time I find myself perplexed that movies spend so much money on reasonably famous people (rather than unknowns for scale) and then never mention that they're in the movie?! Eve? Juliette Lewis? Kristen Wiig? Marcia Gay Harden? You don't wanna mention their names? Weirdness.
But I still can't wait to see it.

Eh, I have no interest in seeing it. And Ellen Page is just playing Juno #2.
Actually. It looks promising. Marketing aside, I love the cast. I think there's such need for a good female comedy that doesn't insult women like the Heigl-Hudson-Hathaway-Bullock movies do.
I was not very excited about this movie, but now actually I am. The trailer looks very promising and the movie has a great cast. Drew Barrymore is having a very successful year. Hopefully this movie will bring her a lot more success!
GO Barrymore GO
Two Words: Beef Supreme
I had no idea Andrew Wilson would be in the film so much. "Celebrate mediocrity, that's fantastic". Love it! I may actually go see this even though Ellen Page has always irked me.
This is going to make a lot of money at the box office. Agreed about Page retreading her Juno role. Her voice is so limited. I think she has it in her to do some great work (she's loose on screen and able to find the balance between comedy and drama without hamming it up or straining herself). Yet that nasal, deadpan voice is so "Juno" that I sense she'll fade out in the next year or so and work every now and then in the odd indie film where they will no doubt tagline the film as "Academy Award Nominee Ellen Page" to re-familiarize audiences as to who she is....Excited for "Whip it!" though. (Love Marcia. Even if she hits a few bumps in the road she always pours all she has in every character, even in FLUBBER for god sakes).

You guys, THAT'S HER VOICE! Unless the movie calls for some sort of accent I don't see why she should have to change it. Gawd.
Looks good, but you're right Nat. So many possibilities. If they give this movie a character set of posters and they're NOT awesome then somebody's losing their job (in my mind)
A dyke-fest directed by Drew Boreymore ? Ew
Juno 2 : In the Valley of the Dykes
"You guys, THAT'S HER VOICE! Unless the movie calls for some sort of accent I don't see why she should have to change it. Gawd."
With that kind of voice I don't want to hear her do any accents! I highly doubt that whatever it is she's got can be morphed into something even remotely resembling a believable accent. And, she is quintessentially, in every way, the apathetic don't-want-to-be-here teen concession worker at your local multi-plex. I don't think she's getting scripts that call for an accent.
The mark of a modern star is that they bring a bit their personality to the film. Ellen's ellen.
That's what studios invest in, that's what people pay to see.
And she's a 21 year old who looks 15. You want her to throw on age make-up and grey wig?
Let her grow. Sheesh.
What she does have in spades is emotional honesty. I've seen the movie. She's not Juno.
I'm still confused as to what ANYTHING in this movie has in common with Juno other than its star.
Some people are just impossible.
Also, two comments using "dyke"? Wow.
I wonder which "Arrested Development" cast member will be co-starring in the next Ellen Page movie.
I'm sorry....what? Valley of the Dykes? What??? Somebody said that!
I'm 100 times more likely to have been a roller derby girl then my best "dyke" friend. And she keeps a much better house then me. Can we dispense with the stereotypes please.
That being said, I think this looks awful. The script was bad, so, unless Drew did some real magic...I dunno.
That was kinda awesome. I'm ready for Drew Barrymore to get her Oscar film so much now (she rocked the hell out of "Grey Gardens"), and "Whip It" surely won't be it, but maybe that's okay too. There's still time and all. That could be a really fun comedy, and from what I heard about it previously, it seemed really throwaway and frivolous. I'd see that opening night. Yay Drew, Ellen, Kristin, Eve, and Marcia! Looking forward to seeing this now.
