my wife likes gangster movies. her favorite is "goodfellas" which was on something last night. she also likes "casino"
but do you?some couple disagree. The Boyfriend was not a big fan of The Hurt Locker to my surprise last night.
I'm my own significant other (I'm Miranda when she's not with Steve), and so my significant other's favorite movie is Casablanca.
My wife loves HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH, and she told me so in one of the first conversations we ever had. Her taste in movies was what drew me to her.Nowadays though, while we still appreciate the great films, we differ when it comes to repeat viewing. I reach for dramas like PULP FICTION, FIGHT CLUB, and CHILDREN OF MEN...she goes for fluff like THE PRINCESS DIARIES, ELLA ENCHANTED, and LEGALLY BLONDE.Nevertheless, we make it work.
i like goodfellas very much - just like she does. but she LOVES it. i find it a bit unsettling. she's not crazy about my favorite movies - maybe because i've watched them over & over.
My husband likes Cassavetes a lot more than I do, and he doesn't know enough about musicals for my taste, but we have enough overlap in film interests to usually agree. Early in our dating life I knew he was awesome when he rented Black Narcissus for us to watch. On the other hand, I once stopped seeing someone after they insisted American Beauty was the greatest film ever.
Heathers - I was hers from then on.
My boyfriend's favorite movie is Alien. To my surprise, he thought Aliens was just okay.
John T -- that's awesome. 'if you can't love yourself how the hell you gonna love someone else?'Christine -- i once did not stop seeing someone after I learned that they loved Water World and i regretted it! (good call)Lucas S --- ??????? How can this be?
My fiancee loves Enchanted. Loves it to death. I quite liked it, too, so we're okay there. She also loves horror movies, which I don't tend to get into (due to how crummy most horror movies are). We have found a few horror movies that we both love, though, like The Orphanage.
My boyfriend doesn't really have just one favourite (I don't either), but one film he likes a lot is "Fucking Åmål", which I really like as well.We often more or less agree on films when it comes to certain genres, e.g. last year we both really liked "(500) Days of Summer" and "Looking For Eric". The former was his favourite of the year, the latter mine. He doesn't like fantasy or sci-fi films at all though, while I like both quite a lot. I guess we defy gender stereotypes a bit when it comes to films. ;)
totally opposite tastes hehe... He loves horror and gore, wich is a gender I try to avoid... He also likes fantasy films so we can watch those together and his all time favorite is "Stardust" (he've made me watch it like a bazillion times) and I pretty much dislike it but for the Michelle Pfeiffer scenes hehe.. also he loves the "Twilight" films and hit me in the theater when I slept over "New Moon"...
my boyf's fave film is a taste of honey starring rita tushingham,
This past year, my boyfriend and I couldn't seem to find agreement on much of anything at the movies. He loved 500 Days of Summer, but I found it underwhelming to say the least. I loved Fantastic Mr. Fox, Sherlock Holmes, and Bright Star... he didn't.I'm fully behind Jeff Bridges for Best Actor, but he somehow wasn't impressed by the performance. (He's pulling for Colin Firth, which is full supportable.)He says A Single Man is one of his favorites of all time. I liked the movie too, but gimme a break! He hasn't seen my 2009 favorites yet—Away We Go and Inglorious Basterds—so jury is still out on those. The one we did agree on, making us outcasts from the big birthday group we went to see it with: neither of us liked Where the Wild Things Are.Oh, and we both also agree that Zombieland was one of the best movies of the year.
I remember completely dismissing a girl when she told me that Orgazmo was a better movie than Casablanca. Never even gave her the chance to say she was just kidding. Shut it down and just walk away.
My girlfriend loves the Wizard of Oz and while it's not my favorite movie it shows several important things about her. She likes musicals, she's willing to watch older films and she respects classical heroes journey structure. All huge pluses for me. We don't always have the same taste in movies but I love that she keeps an open mind and will come with me to see something like "Fish Tank." She's the best.
boyfriend's favorite movie: eternal sunshine of the spotless mind.one of the few things we completely agree on.
He loves "Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me" and I barely got through it.Then again, he barely got through "The Piano." Life is full of compromises.
If I enjoy movies as I do now is thanks to my boyfriend. By the way, he also introduced me to this site...We have pretty similar taste but we love discussing the same things over and over again...
I have an off-topic question=)I'm doing a presentation in college about defining movies of the decade. So if I make a top 10, I would definitely include Lotr, Brokeback, Moulin Rouge and Avatar.Possibly Crouching Tiger, Requiem for a Dream and Eternal Sunshine.Which others do you think are the most defining ones, 'important' or that will be most remembered?
Well, my boyfriend's favorite movie is The Little Mermaid. So my fine with that. Mine are Amelie and the LORT Trilogy.
Alas, no significant other this Valentine's...My ex and I went to the ICA for their Valentine's showing a couple of years ago - it was a preview of Lars and the Real Girl (they always go with something slightly offbeat there). He still counts it as one of his all-time favourites. I like to think part of that is to do with me. Hmm...
My girlfriend tends towards the fluffy chick flicks (she really wants to see Valentine's Day), but I've introduced her to some more mature, thoughful romances like High Fidelity, Say Anything and Before Sunrise/Sunset and those have become some of her favs, which is fine with me. She also let's me pick the movies more often than not which is quite nice of her and has resulted in her probably seeing more Ingmar Bergman movies than most of my fellow film studies students in university
Me & my sweetie have very similar tastes. Our biggest disagreement is 'The Life Aquatic' - he thinks it's wonderful, I think it's incredibly boring and smug.
Gone with the Wind.My boyfriend has amazing taste overall. <3
Starship Troopers and Pulp Fiction...he has an amazing taste, and that's what drew us together in the first place <3
She loves Beauty and the Beast. I love it too, though I prefer Sleeping Beauty. She and I saw my favorite, Nashville, for the first time together. We don't talk about The Queen or Up because those are the movies we fight about. And I'm so glad I'm dating someone who let me take them on a date to see Notes on a Scandal and stayed with me.
My girlfriend tends to be into "hipster" type fare, which works out well for the most part with my own taste ex: Wes Anderson, Noah Baumbach, Jim Jarmusch type stuff...but it can also blow up in our faces (Away We Go)Though she showed me 200 Cigarettes a few months back, I wasn't a huge fan of it...and she wasn't so into Reservoir Dogs...but we all make compromises. :-)
She's also the only other human being I know that loves the 3.5 hour cut of Watchmen...so that in of itself is priceless for me.
Well, I just started dating a guy, so I don't know much about his taste in movies... Though, I do know his two favourite films are The Godfather Part II and The Wind that Shakes the Barley. I have too many favourite films to name.. some inclue: Fight Club, Babel, Billy Elliot, Shakespeare in Love.We actually went to the movies 2 days ago... And I wanted to watch Bright Star or Avatar or Up in the Air, but he was pretty keen on a 'scary' movie, so I reluctantly agreed to the Wolfman. It wasn't bad, and even surprisingly better than I imagines. But still, it had bad bits and boring characters... :(
My wife's favorite film has always been - and I assume will always be - Spirited Away.We have mainly a similar taste, although I couldn't have more displeased that she dragged me to Valentine's Day.She really enjoyed the Hurt Locker though. Further proof she's meant for me.
