It's a mystery. Maybe he's afraid he'll never top his turn as Frank X. Slaughtery.

I completely agree. He's really good if not excellent in everything I've seen him in. And man can this guy cry! He actually makes his character in THREE BURIALS sympathetic, and I would question someone would doesn't feel at a tinge of something when they show his face during that pivotal scene in THE GREEN MILE (regardless of how you feel about that film overall).

Not a day goes by where I don't ask myself the same thing.

This man's last beat in THREE BURIALS OF MELQUIADES ESTRADA was worth every hard moment that film offered up.

He tore me up in "Green Mile." A GREAT actor.

He's one of those actors who when I first saw him in a film, he completely irritated me (like Peter Sarsgaard in "The Man In The Iron Mask") but who I gradually came to really like. His problem is that he seems to like ensemble pieces, and even then he is very generous as an actor, unlike someone like Phillip Seymour Hoffman who will have no problems with chewing all the scenery he can get his hands on in any given scene.
