Open BAFTA Thread

The BAFTAs start all tape-delayed on BBC America very soon now... if you haven't spoiled the show already by looking up the winners at other Oscar-happy blogs, you can watch and act surprised when Slumdog Millionaire wins everything. All right, all right, acting surprised will be difficult even without spoilers -- you'd probably have to be Streep-good to pull that off.

I won't be typing up the BAFTA evening and my own reactions until the second airing at 10:30 or so EST. It was a choice between watching the looney British Academy or attending a concert starring happiness itself Kristin Chenoweth and Marni f'ing Nixon y'all (!!!). So, yeah... wasn't even a contest.

How ridiculous these awards are. Kate Winlset with two lead nominations --- gimme a break. Talk about stacking the deck. Do the Brits want her to win that bad????

Streep will win the Oscar as she won SAG...

winslet has it wrapped up. yet another skinny / youngster beating a deserving vet. too bad, meryl.

Meryl Streep and Sean Penn are stupendous. I really enjoyed their respective performances this year, but they overacted a little bit.

Meryl Streep's "You blew out my light!" = Bette Davis' "What a dump!"

Sean Penn's Milk had a much similar voice to his "Sam" than to the real "Harvey". ["Give them hope" Speech by Supervisor Harvey Milk, in 1978 San Francisco, YOUTUBE]

I do not like to talk about ugly, negative feelings. I hope I am not hurting anybody's opinions/hearts, Mrs. Streep's and Mr. Penn's included.

Kate Winslet's speech was very fluid this time, and it was a good one.

its painful watching winslet win for the reader, when she has her career best performance in revolutionary road being ignored.

everything went as I predicted...except original screenplay!! I think Milk was so much better than In Bruges, I still hope it wins the Oscar.

I was hoping for a Streep upset, but I'm still hoping for the biggest upset of all... Streep wins the Oscar over Winslet!!

Anonymous 8:32 - I hope Kate sees this, its probably the only time she's ever been referred to as a "skinny youngster"!*

*I love that about her, btw. This isn't a dig!

Marni and Kristen? Gah, you lucky dog! (New Yorkers get everything. I'm in next door freakin' Connecticut and what do we get? Nothing, unless it's at the ridiculously overpriced casinos.) Please do a post about the concert!

Did you enjoy the concert?
