Best Supporting Actor Babies

Babies as in... when they were young.... when it all began.

For my weekly column at Towleroad I ended up in some sort of retro mental loop, obsessing about how the careers of the nominees kicked off. I restricted myself to Best Supporting Actor or I would've been typing for hours.

I also admit a wee perverse desire to see Dear John but so far I've stayed strong.

If you've seen any of the supporting actor nominee's debut movies, please speak up. I don't remember Matt Damon being in Mystic Pizza at all. Do you?

I was also very surprised when I've learned that Matt Damon is in Mystic Pizza and watched it again - he is the younger brother of Julia's love interest. Just a short scene at the Dinner table.

It's like Ivonne said, "Steamer" in this case isn't some sort of job description, it's his character's name. I (re-)watched "Mystic Pizza" a couple of years ago or so and recognized him. He really hasn't changed much. :)

Found the scene on YouTube:

Dear John was dreadful-- except for a somewhat touching side-plot involving the relationship between Channing Tatum and his autistic father. But all the mushy love story stuff? As bad as it gets, really.

But Dear John takes place at the beach so there's no reason for Channing Tatum to wear a shirt. How bad could it be?

Damn, Christoph was one hot piece back in the day.

Not related (though I totally agree with adam k.) but could you tell me who are the actors on the banner?

I got Winslet, Swinton and Bloom but I don't know who that first beautiful man is...

Matt Damon-Mystic Pizza
Woody Harrelson-Wildcats
Chris Plummer-Stage Struck
Stanley Tucci-Prizzi's Honor
Christoph Waltz-Fire and Sword

The only one of these I have seen is Prizzi's Honor. And Tucci had a very small part, apparently.

I would have never guessed it! He looked older but gorgeous...

Thanks Marshall and Nathaniel!

Could you post more images of Christoph Waltz from 1982? I attempted to search for more and came up with nothing that resembles what you’ve found.
