great movie. and my favorite Christian Bale performance strangely enough. I know I'm gonna get shit for that one.

What movie is that? The Prestige? I haven't seen that one yet. I feel dumb.

*sulks off to his room to watch Newsies again*

I love this movie. problem my #3 for 2006. Loved both Bale and Jackman in it and thought they both desrved consideration for best actor. at the time i thought lubezki's work on Children of Men was the best cinematography of the year. I actually think Pfister's work on this was superior now

I had forgotten about Empire of the Sun... hmmmm I'm gonna say that might be a tie. It really is one of the greatest child performances of all time. I'm still dumbfounded that he didnt get an Oscar nomination. Usually the Academy eats that shit up.

Great film, but my mind has been so poisoned by TDK that I keep expecting the other side of that coin to be burned.

I always thought that I didn't like him as an actor, despite absolutely loving him in this movie. Then I saw Empire of the Sun. I'm soooooo glad I was wrong.

Empire of the Sun is still one of his best. Psycho is totally twisted and disturbing, but Newsies is fun.

OK, Nat, I just saw in the comments from the old Bale post that you're agnostic on JJL, leaning towards thumbs down"? What? Weren't you way rooting for her to get that career oscar nom last year? Didn't you say she was grossly overdue? Didn't you do that interview with her? I thought you loved her!

adam k --i wasn't exactly rooting for her (notice she didn't make my personal awards list). predictions are separate from personal feelings. I do think though that it's ridiculous that she hasn't been nominated given that most actors with that level of adulation are. it doesn't really make Hollywood sense.

the only film for which i personally probably would have nominated her is Mrs. Parker (but i haven't seen Last Exit to Brooklyn which many people swear by)

I think I've made my... predilection... for this performance clear before, but Bale in American Psycho... TOPS, man. Tops.

I need to watch The Prestige again, but I was so annoyed by the whole twist thing the first go around, which I'd figured out about halfway thru the film, that I didn't like it. It did have spectacular cinematography, though.

how could you dislike a movie that's Batman vs. Wolverine?

Surprisingly, I loved this movie. It was more elaborate and involving than The Illusionist. My brother kept saying, "See The Illusionist! See The Illusionist! It's great," and I always countered with "See The Prestige!" I finally saw The Illusionist months after I first saw The Prestige and I still thought The Prestige was better. In many ways... The Illusionist is good, but not better.
