I just bought Melbourne's only DVD copy of this movie for my Dad's birthday. It's his favourite movie. I never understood why. I can see why Natalie Wood got the Oscar nomination - she's very much Acting, and she's pretty good at it. But I could never warm to her.

I don't think any cruelty was intended, as these screen shots comprise one of the most famous scenes of Wood's career- the breakdown in the bathtub! Personally, the Splendor scene that always kills me is Natalie's meltdown in front of her classmates, which ends with her breaking down in sobs and fleeing the room. Wood definitely pushed herself as an actress in the film, and probably gave her best performance in Splendor (1961 was quite a year for Wood, as her final scene in West Side Story is also a doozy).

I know biopics are so tired right now, but if Hollywood ever does one (soon) of Natalie Wood, Diane Lane ought to play her. They kind of look alike, and Diane really needs another challenge. Just a thought...

this scene from Splendor in the Grass is a must for any Natalie Wood fan... this was one of her best films.

Another film in which she was terrific is Love with the Proper Stranger.... This Property Is Condemned, although not a great movie, shows off Wood's acting chops, too....

I love this gal .. although when you view most of her movies, she shows limited talent as a natural actress... although I would have argued this fact years ago. She had a beauty and presence that brought her to the foreground as an actress to be reckoned with.
