The Three Faces of Link

Dear reader,
___Please don't tell Nathaniel that Nathaniel is posting something on his rare self-authorized day off. Even if it is only three little links.
___xoxo, Nathaniel

My New Plaid Pants "the moment I fell for" I love this new series, don't you?
ModFab
's gay decree: "Sleep with Brad Pitt" ...well, duh!
<--- Synecdoche New York the trailer. I know I am an... um, unusual sort, but to me the chief draw of this trailer is seeing Dianne Wiest's face connected with a real honest-to-god possibly important movie again. Can't wait. She's one of the best actresses in the entire world and she should have a career the size of Judi Dench's. You know it's true.

Yes! Yes! Yes!

Talent wise, Diane is the American Judy Dench isn't she?

Diane was a theatre actress as well, and I honestly think she is better then Dench.

I spent a lovely afternoon with her and her children some years ago, and she was delightful, and kind and unassuming, as you can imagine.

Love her!

Sammy Jo - I want details about your afternoon with Miss Wiest !!!

Please ?! Pretty Please ?!

Well, Dianne Wiest could win an Emmy on Sunday for "In Treatment," so she's still in the thick of things doing great work, even if it's on television.

Love me some Wiest! Her career trajectory mystifies me though. She was never really an ingenue, and forever appeared preternaturally wise.

Wiest's standard role in the '80s seemed to be sensible, stalwart mother. Cheery, sometimes wacky but always solid sidekick was her '90s template. Then in the '00s she transitioned to hardened elder. But interspersed between these stock characters, we were graced with her two best performances -- 'Hannah and Her Sisters' and 'Bullets Over Broadway' (thank you, Woody Allen) -- which show she can do more, so much more. And yet?

I can't quite put my finger on why she doesn't share those flashes of brilliance more often (typecasting, poor choices, opportunities lacking, stinginess).
It'll be interesting to see what the next decade brings.

Dianne Wiest is one of the greatest living actresses, in my opinion. I'm glad this blog is such an advocate of her, as many seem to have forgotten she exists. All of her major performances are almost polar opposites of each other, it's just astounding.

I'm always praying for her and Woody Allen to do another project together.

You a madman. Take a day off for Pete's sake!

I saw diane Weist live in The Seagull a few months ago. She is a true gem.

And I too had the pleasure of meeting her. She belonged to the yoga studio where I used to work(which i will not disclose). She is just lovely.

Dianne Wiest is revoltingly underused. And I'd love to see her in a significant Woody Allen film at least once more. Having just seen for the first time and been duly blown away by "Another Woman", I'm fantacising that Woody has it in him to pull off a full-on comeback, not just an encouraging half-forgettable half-comeback. If he could write Wiest a role like the one he wrote for Gena Rowlands, I think we'd really have something very special.

The only thing I've seen Wiest in lately where she is ven remotely utilized, and she was gorgeous hammy gold in that, was the 10th Kingdom. And that was almost ten years ago. Seriously, guys. This is the woman who has two Oscars and actually deserves those two Oscars. How rare is that?

So I'm very much looking forward to this film, to say the least.

I really want Penelope to take it this year, but I have no problem if Diane joins the three Oscar club.

Just off to a screening at the Cambridge Film Festival (UK) to see Julia, with Tilda Swinton doing a Q & A session. Will give you an update on what I think. All the best Adam H.

Well the thing with actresses of "a certain age" is that they go in cycles of being popular. The likes of Helen Mirren and Ellen Burstyn have all had moments of being the name on people's tongues for a while and then another comes along. Maybe Dianne can be that one with this movie and get a couple more great roles in before she gets pushed aside again.

Judi Dench and Maggie Smith, however, are perennials.

Am I the only one trumpeting Dianne Wiest as the mother for the August: Osage County movie? She's the right age for the part, and we all know we could pull it off. It just astounds me that people are crying Meryl when Dianne is right there, waiting...waiting....

Dianne is amazing in Synecdoche. If anyone actually sees the movie I think she could easily secure a Best Supporting Actress nomination. She dominates the last 20-30 minutes of the film and is responsible for some of its most emotionally poignant moments.

Tilda Swinton gives another brilliant performance in Julia. The film itself maybe a bit too long but according to Tilda it was originally alot longer. Do you know if it has an official release date in America. A few things Tilda mentioned following the screening-She thinks when casting people to play family members you should be able to believe they are family members.-She spoke about the process before you start work on the actual films, sitting around the kitchen table at Derek Jarman's house coming up with ideas that would later be turned into the films The Last of England,War Requiem and Edward 11.- This is something alot of people say but don't actually do however in the case of Tilda when she says the director is the most important factor when choosing what films to make. She also joked about having tits for the role. [Not sure how much weight she put on]
