Good Night, and Good Luck.

Not the movie, just the well wishing as you head into Slumberland. What a looooong day it's been. I hope to sleep like a baby. Not a wrinkled old man baby abandoned on the step of old folks home. Like a regular sleeping baby. Let my dreams be unburdened by shiny statues and Springsteen snubbings.

All the Oscar pages are updated if a bit sparse. More info to come everywhere. Tomorrow I'll announce the winners in the Actress Psychic Contest and if you're just joining us for awards season please note that this place is hopping all year long and we don't always talk about that naked gold man. Just a healthy amount of th...well yeah, OK, we talk about him too much. But there's general movie stuff, too. Stick around. Lots of fun to come as we head toward Oscar Night and beyond.

Soon: More episodes of the podcasting, SAG live blogging, Brad Pitt, Kristin Scott Thomas, Melissa Leo, more interviews, some final "awards" for 2008, classic movie retrospectives, theme weeks and this year's edition of the "We Can't Wait" countdown for the films of 2009. Don't go anywhere.

I see Documentary hadn't been fnished yet. I think this could end out being a nail-bitter. While Man on Wire has won nearly every award so far, the Academy may want to go and give Werner Herzog "his award", especially after the Grizzy Man snub.

I know we should take a break from all the Oscar discussion for a moment, but something just popped into my head. Could Brad Pitt win Best Actor? I mean, Oscar LOVED the movie. And with Sean Penn and Mickey Rourke duking it out like they have been... could Brad Pitt sneak in there? He's been so silent so far, but could he be a silent threat?

I just mean, 13 nominations is such a rare thing nowadays. Maybe my tired mind is just trying to scare me. But I'm definitely scared by that thought.

If Pitt wins, there's no way Button will lose Best Picture. However, I don't know if they'll reward a performance that's mostly special effects and makeup-based.

Anyways...there may be spoilers, but I just thought of something. Is Robert Downey Jr. the first actor/actress since Maggie Smith to be nominated for a performance where the character losing an Oscar? Or did somebody else slip in, like Cate Blanchett for The Aviator?

Oh, and on your Oscar page for Best Actress...THE Changeling?

Could you please ensure that you, Joe, Katey, and Nick get together to do a podcast on a regular (say, once daily) basis?

And could Joe please do an entire podcast as Christine Collins?

Thanks very much.

I think that the horrendous Sally Hawkins snub might give all future performances from her that are oscar worthy to get a mini head start buzz wize...or so i hope!

Isn't it funny how all these so-called old fuddy duddies to nominated The Reader instead of The Dark Knight (supposedly) are the same people who 30 years ago nominated movies like Jaws and Raiders of the Lost Ark and Star Wars?

You really can't compare Raiders of the Lost Ark and Star Wars to TDK.

For one thing, Raiders and Star Wars are actually good.

ajn oops. maybe i was making up a new movie in my head to replace this one.

Yeah, Raiders is great...
Star Wars...not so much...it's actually embarrasing to watch at times. The Empire Strikes Back is incredible on the other hand.

I didn't know that Israel's national cinema was such a Peter O'Toole. Eight foreign film noms and no wins? Crazy. And Bashir was snubbed in Animated (for "Bolt"? seriously? Are they desperate to have Miley Cyrus present again?). Could be a winner over Le Class.

Unless it's Charlize Theron?

Jake -- a 'peter o'toole'. I love it. at least they're doing better than some other countries. Some of these countries have been submitting forever and can't get arrested like Portugal and Turkey.
