Miracle at St Anna Trailer

I guess I should have put it higher on the Best Makeup Oscar predictions list and maybe Derek Luke (old age acting) on the Best Actor list. Live and learn. Do you think Spike Lee has a winner here?

The trailer makes it look like yet another good film from Spike Lee. He continually delivers with every film and so way overdue. I suspect he'll get a lone director nomination because the studio (Touchstone) hasn't been in the Oscar game for a long while now and might not push the film strongly. I think it'll depend on how the studio campaigns the film.

Unfortunally, last Lee's films (Except "The 25th Hour") are far of his great films like "Do the right thing" and "malcolm X". It's a nice trailr and looks fine, but I don't know how expect: if a classic Lee film or a flop bomb. I also think it'll depend on how the studio campaigns the films and also how delivers the recent publicity Eastwood vs. Lee (Last year's Sean Penn and his nasty separation)

The trailer doesn't make me be excited about this movie. For several reasons, but right now the main one, because after watching it, it's the kind of trailer that tells you almost all the story and doesn't make you feel the need to see the rest.

I'm waiting for your thoughts on the "The Dutchess" trailer, Nat. The new one, with the cheesy Diana references.

I'm quite excited. I love that Knightley isn't taking "pretty girl" roles. Sure, she's pretty in them all, but they're all active, interesting women. I have to revisit Domino soon...

Oh, but that being said, please do take a break from the blogging to get better! There's nothing like doing nothing to get you back in shape.

And OD on the soup!

Billy D I am very much looking forward to Knightley's performance in "The Duchess." I have been lucky enough to read the script, and it is a very meaty role with a wide range of emotions. If she can pull it off, I wouldn't count her out of the Osacr race so quickly. (I am currently predicting her with Kidman, Hawkins, Winlset, and Streep).

Seeing Joseph Gordon-Levitt in the trailer adds some appeal, but the story doesn't look so great, and no, I don't see any Best Actor in that trailer.

If the movie was good enough to stand on it's own, Lee wouldn't have made his idiotic comments about Eastwood. Lee wouldn't have to drum up interest in his film - the film itself would do that.

The trailer looked pretty cliche-ridden to me. What, Spike Lee makes it and we have to pay attention to it, whether it's any good or not? What a spoiled entitled brat.

I believe this movie has supernatural stuff to it, so it's far from a mere "black Saving Private Ryan" as I've read places. But, who know.

I've thought it'll be Lee's Oscar ticket purely because it's his most baity and you just know already that if he's in the race (as in, the movie is good) and he doesn't make it then the people who live to call people racist will be out in force even though they've shown time and time again that they are just not that into him.

Still, I think it'll make it. And good on him if he does. Much too late, mind you.

anon -- i fail to see how Spike Lee doesn't have a point about the lack of black soldiers in war movies.

I personally respect people who are willing to stir the pot (Rosie O'Donnell also) because everyone else is just so willing to let the status quo be the status quo

Well I thought that trailer looked very classy. Looking forward to this one now.

Nat, it's not that Lee doesn't have the right to remind people of black heritage. He has been doing that for years, and it's perfectly understandable. But accusing Eastwood of all people, who has just made an American WW2 film showing the Japanese in a positive light, for racism? WTF?

Did I read that right? the main character (a black man) is named "Hector NEGRON"?

I think I'll withhold judgement for now. Its way too hard to tell. Could be great, could be overreaching (the "you gotta believe in the magic" bit strikes a bit too much of some of the dialogue in Crash, so I hope that it's not typical of the dialogue throughout. )
