Smell Like Skank

I am without words.

I have been without words for weeks in regards to this ad (pictured left), torn from the NY Times and placed lovingly on my desk by the boyfriend.

It was rather like the time when I laid down in bed in college only to discover that my friends had decorated my ceiling with a veritable shrine to Melanie Griffith, my most hated actress of the time. So thoughtful of them!

But, my personal feelings aside, is Hilary Swank an actress that screams "fragrant"? I do not get it. I guess her agent works hard for his money. But he's been handsomely paid, has he not?

And naming a perfume "insolence", too?!? Hmmm. I guess she is the perfect spokeswoman for that.

Even though I'm a big supporter of Swank around these parts, I'm just as stumped as to why Guerlain chose her as the spokesperson for this scent. I mean, she's never going to be one of the glam girls no matter how hard she tries (that picture is not working for me), so why did she pursue/agree to this?

Also - "and have your frangrance signed by her"? WTF?!!

Ha, love that you cued us all in on the actual definition of the word, insolence. Why on earth would Guerlain use such a pejorative, both literally (the name) and figuratively (the spokeswoman), for branding its new perfume? Geez, it's like trying to sell a bad film by calling it, "D.O.A." Oh, wait...

P.S. "...the face of Guerlain's exuberant new fragrance..." Why insolence? Why not just call it 'exuberance' then?

hahah, YES!

I wrote about this a few weeks back. Ridiculous. Did these people even know what "insolence" meant when they named it that?

Lol. That's pretty funny. But I do like Swank's acting.

"Is Hilary Swank an actress that screams 'fragrant'?"

Well, yes. As in, "Did you see Swank's performance in 'The Black Dahlia'? Hooo-ey! Did she stink!"

Or, "Can you believe Swank aired of her ex-hubby's dirty laundry? She's such a piece of shit!"

Speaking of 'The Black Dahlia,' is a review from you forthcoming, Nat? I was looking very much forward to this film, but was quite disappointed in it overall. I'm very curious to hear your thoughts on it -- you gave it a B- after all, which is higher than my grade.

This whole "insolence" thing kind of does seem like some kind of joke on Swank that nobody gets, except maybe the person who started the line. I mean... "insolence?" I really think it's not meant as a compliment.
