All I Want For Christmas Is...

  • that Michelle Pfeiffer will stay now that she's back
  • for next year to have some grade A movies, no reservations just plenty o' masterpiece. Not that this cinematic year wasn't very rewarding
  • more time to write and create, less time in the other daily grind
  • more days like the one I'm having today with my dearest friends. It's merry!
  • a successful launch of my first podcast (coming your way this week)
  • for There Will Be Blood to be as good as I'm hearing. Wednesday...
I'll quit there. Don't wanna be greedy. I'm away from the computer (mostly) for Christmas but I'll try to check in once or twice over the next few days. What are you wishing for this holiday season?

Merry Christmas, Nathaniel! You truly do have the best film/Oscar site on the web. Keep it up - your hard work IS appreciated :)

Ditto. I usually don't post comments but since it's Christmas I thought I'd say that this really is my favorite Oscar site (and Oscar sites are my favorite sites) and I check it every day. Keep up the great work in 2008 and Merry Christmas.

Most definitely my favorite Oscar site. I find myself checking the blog several times a day. Each post is witty and fantastic. The Film Experience is amazing. Keep it up in 2008 and Merry Christmas, Nathaniel.

My favorite oscar site as well. hats off. Merry Christmas - and happy birthday to me & sissy. All I want for Christmas is a frothy / light / charming / brilliant romantic comedy ala "Breakfast at Tiffys" or "Moonstruck." Just got back from "No Company for Old Men..." - and must say, I am wondering where we are; thinking this is one of the best of the year. I feel drained and down.

Maligayang Pasko, Nat!!!

Sana naman ay huwag kang magsawa na magsulat tungkol kay Nicole sa susunod pang mga taon...

(Just wishing you a Merry Christmas from a Kidman fan who lives on a different planet, lol)

Well, Nat knows I love his site, so I'll just answer his question:

I want a boyfriend for Christmas. And I have someone in mind who I hope might become one soon! (crosses fingers)

Have a fantastic Christmas, Nathaniel. Your work is always a wonderful way to procrastinate doing mine. :)

What I want for Christmas... I want to watch a comfy, cozy, fun movie. Those are always nice during the holidays.

Hey Anonymous, is that a fellow Filipino?

Happy Christmas Nathaniel.

My entire film education began with this site and it's still my favourite.

Apart from World Peace (because my secret identity is Miss New Jersey), I want our beautiful local theatre to find the funding to employ me properly.

And, because I'm greedy, I want some films I can unreservedly love next year. No questions, just simple adoration from the get go.

5 - kylie is able to do her concert in 2008 which i paid top money for
6 - kate the great is cast in something
7 - that hollywood stops the writers strike somehow allowing film clips on oscar night.
8 - madonnas new album is good
9 - glenn close is cast in sunset boulevard and is up for nest years oscar.
10 - michelle pfeiffer is given a role worthy of her talents.

Oooh, yay to the podcast! Filmspotting is great, but just 1 hour of movie talk a week just ain't enough, and I'm looking forward to what you'll do with it.

Merry Christmas!

All the Universities that I haven’t heard from yet to give me an offer. I want offers!
- My own column in The Guardian, Marie Claire and Empire. If pampered princess Peaches Geldof, who has no appreciation of what it’s really like to be a teenager, gets to write, then so should the rest of us!
- Scarlett Johansson and Emma Watson to have a catfight in public and lose all acting contracts as a result of it.
- Peter Crouch to get a transfer away from Liverpool, to Man City or somewhere where he’ll play regularly. The Champions League to come to Stamford Bridge.
- George Bush to be annihilated, and everybody who has suffered under the wrath of him to have a have a Merry Christmas with their families with warm shelter, food, etc.
- A boyfriend (sad I know).
- Tickets to the BAFTA and Oscar ceremonies (again, sad, I know. But it really stings that Emma Watson gets to go to these thins.)
- To gain full understanding of any mathematical concepts that was troubling me last term.
- All my friends who I love to have a happy and successful life.
- Saoirse Ronan and James McAvoy to get Oscar nominations, so I have someone to root for come February.

Yeah, Nat knows I love this site so no point going into that (you don't read a site for six years just in spite).

I want lots of things for Christmas that won't really work out so instead I'm just gonna be happy with my Twin Peaks season 2 soundtrack and One from the Heart 2 disc DVD and all the other non-movie things I'm getting.

- For 2008 to be an exciting, pleasent and peaceful year in which I don't crack up due to exams and start at the university that I want.
- That Janelle Monae breaks into the mainstream.
- That Laura Linney gets an Oscar nom.
- For Paul Auster, David Sedaris, Lorrie Moore and Margaret Atwood to have new books out.
- That Tori Amos does an Irish tour.
- For Kate Bush to perform at the Oscars
- Twin Peaks Gold Boxset to be released over here

"George Bush to be annihilated"

now, there's a real peace-lover!

why don't we all just come together in '08. I'm a dem / liberal, but saying stuff like that is foolish & horrible....and gets us nowhere.

Under the tree...a 2008 without acrimony on the blogs. Can we each be allowed to have our opinions on things like "Crash" and Cate challenged only by those who can keep a civil tongue in their heads (or hands on keyboards)?

Anonymous said...

it's wrong for anyone to call for our President to be annihilated. wrong. period.

Definitely D.H. Lawrence.

His books, I mean.

Merry Christmas, Nate!

My wish is that New York City will finally have a decent revival house - with great programming and comfortable seats in a beautiful setting.

Not just once a year (the Ziegfeld), not just weekends at midnight (the Sunshine), not horribly uncomfortable with a teeny screen (Film Forum)... is that too much to wish for?

NATHANIEL R said...

kingroper.

that is not too much to wish for. i don't really "get" film forum to tell you the truth. Whenever I've gone it's been crowded so you'd think with the business there could be some efforts made to improve the space?

i've also thought that plenty about THE ANGELIKA. it's a dive and they never had any competition until SUNSHINE which is much nicer. So if Sunshine can afford to look nice and have good screens and whatnot? Why can't ANGELIKA which also stays busy?

Christmas Wishes/New Years Hopes...

1. That film distributors learn how to distribute foreign films. One week qualifiers in December are stupid.

2. That we get a break from all the summer franchising. Like, we don't need it to go from April to September.

3. That smaller studios understand this maxim: there is no such thing as too many good films. If I'm seeing several good movies in a short period of time, I'm gonna go to even more movies and take risks with films that I might not have otherwise. That said, there is one exception to this rule. IT'S CALLED DECEMBER. I'm busy shopping/travelling/last minute crap this month. Why do you release nineteen films in four days that I really want to see but like takes priority over?

4. I don't want Blanchett to get nominated for The Golden Age. The backlash will be overwhelming then. And she will truly become a default person to nominate (no, she's not already), and quite frankly - she's better than that.

5. A world without Bush as a leader.
