Linking Out in the Evening

IndieWire critics polling. There Will Be Blood dominates
Guardian John Patterson reshoots this year's cinema history. I love this post.
Towleroad Channing Tatum and the surge of fight movies
Deep Focus says that There Will Be Blood is a flat out masterpiece, although Boogie Nights is dissed in the process. Which...well, that just ain't right.
The Reeler ...speaking of PTA. He's only in his 30s and he's getting a retrospective in NYC next month. So is his contemporary Apitchatpong "Joe" Weerasethakul
Jim Emerson's Scanners really interesting "guess the top ten list" I can only figure out the top 5.
OMG Kevin Spacey's full moon. omg it's hilarious
Being Boring greatest things about 2007 in no particular order
Lazy Eye Theatre
a Christmas wish list
Hollywood Elsewhere on audience shock when Sweeney Todd starts singing. I've long since given up hope on American audiences but it's not like the studios aren't partially to blame. They encourage the ignorance.

I was gazing at this 1948 Life Cover on Flickr "New Male Movie Stars Montgomery Clift". It made me smile and made me curious. That was a plural. Who was on the inside? Didn't anyone know who they were by 1955? And then I got a little sad. And it reminded me of the Vanity Fair series I'm doing... everything that's new today will be yesterday's news will one day be classic and then will one day be gone. *sniffle* This is hardly revelatory news. Just a reminder. god, what is it about holidays that bring out less than totally joyous feelings?

I'm curious to hear your thoughts on Control, Nat. I thought it was B/B- material, but I could see how some people would love it. The acting and cinematography is really good.

And I really hope There Will Be Blood gets an A from you. SOMEthing has to. And it's really looking primo so far.

OMG, I orgasm'd.

I think most people realize that Sweeney Todd is a musical, I mean he's singing in the trailer & tv spots.

when does "there will be blood" open??? it's nowhere in the dc area.

Thanks for the link to Kevin Spacey's full moon. I still can't stop laughing about it.

I don't think I understand the pun involved in "full moon." Am I just dumb?

you're so cute, adam k.

Spacey starred in "A moon for the misbegotten" on Broadway.
His full moon is OK actually, I'd hit it

I had no idea about that Broadway show.

I get the "mooning thing". Is the "full" part just cause it's plump, or whatever? I thought it was supposed to have something to do with the shavedness. Oh well, sorry, I'm ruining the joke.

adam k. said...

Or is it "full" because it's fully shaved? See, I really have no idea what it means. Is it supposed to be vague and just make you laugh cause it's Kevin Spacey's ass? Is that all it is?

See, I'm totally clueless...

Jimmy, There Will Be Blood opens limited on Dec. 26th, in NYC and LA. I'm not sure when it's going wide.

i'm almost curious about your thoughts on control. i thought the acting was great, especially sam riley. if you ask me anton corbijn should be winning best new filmmaker before ben affleck.

Anonymous said...

i meant also curious, not almost

am really glad you like the guardian's john patterson's post

but you should read his recent slamming down and dismissal of nicole kidman
saying how she annoying she is

so spot on
and enough to answer all those comments to your kidman article

Add me to the Control chorus. the cinematography, Sam Riley and Sam Morton are all excellent. And a biopic performance that wasn't a mimic first and foremost.

Adam, bless your lil' cotton socks. You're precious sometimes.

Who cares about Spacey's ass ? A third of the gay population of London has already seen it, we want to see adam k's full moon. Now that would be hot

here i go again - who is adam k? (I'm the fella who didn't know who edith piaf was & was royally scolded by some). Also didn't know who some fashion guy was - chastised big time.

adam k. said...

Not to worry, Jimmy, adam k is just ME. Not someone famous who everyone should know (unfortunately). Although yeah, you probably should've been able to figure that out : P

And Alex Cypher, I'll show you mine if you show me yours... rawr

I love how no one ever actually answered my question, just called me cute and precious and asked to see my ass. That's brill.

Oh, and Nat, I apologize for ruining this thread. Really, I do.

That photo of Monty is beautiful...it's interesting, looking at it, that I can understand why he doesn't get the props for changing screen acting that Brando does. There's something in our culture that doesn't trust when a male actor/performer is "too pretty" (ie too feminine/too gay - look at the lashing Valentino received in his day); the intellectual/critical group think prefers it's objects of adoration to be just masculine/rugged/ugly/ironic enough for safety's sake. (This notion came up for me while listening to Culture Snob's "drunken commentary track" wherein the two critics watching discuss the backlash that occured against MR and that it was perceived by many as "too gay" (too camp, romantic, whatever). Or where they compare the status in terms of greatness and importance Citizen Kane vs Casablance with CK coming out the winner. In my opinion Casablanca could never win that contest (I find CK great technically, yes yes yes but overrated) because it is a "romance" and that may be ok in our culture to a certain extent, but a certain critical/intellectual love will always be withheld because of that.)

Come on, adam k.,
that's because we all know you want to become an actor. We're just trying to help you launch your career. See, your name appears in the same sentence as Edith Piaf's, that's a good start. And there already people who want to see you naked, franky it doesn't get any better than this for a struggling actor.

I wonder if adam k. is also fully shaved

Let's all jump on the adam k. bandwagon

What can I say, I'm flattered.
