Can someone please explain to me again how Inglourious Basterds did not manage a costume design nomination this year? Still scratching my head about that a month later.
As would be expected, films which make a big story deal about their clothing (Bright Star, Coco Before Chanel, The Duchess, The Devil Wears Prada to name a few recent examples) do well here. The other three things that tend to help in this category are period work (√ World War II), fawning camera work emphasizing the clothes (√ Shoshana dressing for battle in red with veil) and royalty porn (n/a).
This film even has the tale of "Bridget von Hammersmark & the shoe". I never thought Tarantino would be able to top "wiggle your big toe" under the category of Entire Scenes Built Around Director's Foot Fetish but he worked it out, didn't he?

I really don't want to veer off topic (LOVE Ingolourious Basterds), but am I the only Film Experience reader unable to watch the Oscars because Cablevision and ABC7 reached a disagreement?
does this involve timewarner?
I'm pretty sure the TimeWarner/Scripps TV thing was settled in January. This is new. Cablevision customers in NYC, Connecticut, Long Island, and parts of New Jersey will lose ABC because of a much more recent dispute.
What's more awesome is that it goes into effect 12:01 AM on March 7th, so bye bye Oscars if this thing isn't settled soon! I mean, we Cablevision customers did lose Food Network and HGTV for about two weeks back in January.

Diane Kruger's cast alone deserved an Oscar.
Aren't there websites that stream live feeds for shows/events that not all people can receive, like justin.tv?
I know I watch some of my wrestling pay-per-views (I know, I know) that I can't afford on www.justin.tv. Although they get taken down by copyright hounds every few minutes so I wind up giving up. But I don't really think there are Oscar people that have the kind of time to pull the plug on a live stream like that. Besides, the feeds I watched got pulled because they were illegal feeds of a paid event. The Oscars are on basic network television, so given the extraordinary circumstances with this Cablevision fiasco, I think it'd be understandable and even expected for those affected to seek out alternative ways of watching the show online. It's not like UFC or WWE where you can just go to a sports bar, because no place will show the Oscars like that. But seriously, check the internet for feeds.
Start with justin.tv and work your way from there. Granted, it requires you to wait until the night of the show to find out whether the feed is legit or not, but it's really the only option outside of hopping on a bus to another state and getting a hotel to watch on your own, or going to an out-of-the-area friend's house for the festivities.
You know what makes Tarantino a great director? This scene convinced me that feet can be sexy. Or maybe it just convinced me that EVERYTHING about Diane Kruger is sexy. Either way: job well done.
That was one of the worst movies I've ever seen. I hope it gets no awards. That was the first and last Tarantino movie I'll ever see.
