Halloween Countdown...10

I obsess on Halloween. Other than Oscar night it's my fav holiday. But for me obsess often = stress. Trying to come up with the perfect costume, planning to go to too many parties, etc... So, this year I'm taking it easier. But to celebrate bloggishly, and to satiate my desire for list-making, I will countdown the Top Ten Movies That Make Me Think of Halloween

10. Sleeping Beauty(1959)
Maleficent, the one person that Sleeping Beauty's parents shouldn't have ever forgotten to invite to their daughter's debut, is my favorite from Disney's animated rogues gallery. What's more this magical party crasher might just be my favorite villain. period. from any movie. Darth Vader can quit the heavy breathing. The Wicked Witch of the West's cackle isn't as deadly serious as Maleficent's entitled fury. Sleeping Beauty makes me think of this festively dark holiday because I always thought that, on the right person and with the right commitment to the whole look, the perfect Maleficent costume would be unbeatable. I know you can buy mass produced versions but I've never seen anyone come anywhere close to approximating this sorceress' majesty, gorgeous evilness, or the correct color of her flawless skin. And even if the right Halloween reveller could nail this singular look, they couldn't morph into a fire breathing dragon anyway. Losers.

I actually should've said this before. I'm so glad Australia doesn't really "do" Halloween. Like... other than the candy (for kids) and teenage ruckus-making I don't really see the whole point of it.

People can dress up idiodically any time of the year!

um... did anyone else laugh at "the gay porn blog" commentary? WTF???

Anyway, I LOVE Malificent (or whatever she's called). I vividly remember being scared to death by this woman when I was a child. Truly great Disney stuff. Didn't know it was a 59 movie... wow!!!

anyway, my halloween picture is "The Exorcist". Very creepy stuff for my inner and very hidden Christian self.

I just found today the BEST movie themed Halloween costume EVER!! This guy made his very own AT-AT costume (a la Star Wars)!!! I totally geeked over this one. Then he posted a Flickr photo set of the process and the outcome. Just phenomenal. :p

wow, that is impressive.

i love when people take the do-it-yourself approach to Halloween (as i usually do too)

My favorite do-it-yourself costume appeared at a friend's Halloween party, circa two years ago, in the form of that Jack in the Box mascot. Now there wasn't anything overtly special or intricate about it -- a giant, hollowed-out styrofoam ball, little hat, eyes, nose and mouth, plus a basic suit -- but it was just so bizarre, unexpected and completely homemade, that it was destined for greatness. Now if only somebody had the black magic and ingenuity to whip up a wicked Maleficent costume, that would really top it all.

I *was* Maleficent for Halloween! Back in 1987! Granted, that made me less of a Maleficent than I could be now. But my mother made me the outfit with the pointed headdress and everything. It was magnificent.

You guys do this EVERY year? Man, that makes me feel better for having to wait 3 months for History of Violence.

And, this blog is the hottest gay porn blog I'VE ever been to, but I don't know about the rest of you...
