Ugh, I hope she wins!

Yeah, of the rather average line-up (considering the rich pickings available), for me she's head and shoulders above the others. I think she's in the strongest position, buzz-wise, right now. (Post BAFTA-win, suddenly everyone's thinking, "Hey, wouldn't that actually be a great idea?")

The only problem is she wasn't in the strongest position when the ballots went out.

I think Swinton's problem is that at the time of the nominations announcement she didn't have a STORY. Ryan was the newcomer, Dee was the legend, Blanchett played a man and Ronan is the new child engenue. Swinton was just the woman from the Best Picture nominee. But, here's hoping she can pull of a Marcia Gay Harden of sorts and surprise everybody.

This is probably my biggest wish of the night, come to think of it. Given that the other big 8 categories are for the most part sewn up, I'd be thrilled to see Tilda channel all the Michael Clayton love into a win in this category. I think that, ultimately the BAFTA award has simply gone to my head and given me false hope. Alas.

me too.

and the fact that so many people are rooting for her both surprises me and gives me hope.

it'd be such an awesome twist on Oscar night.
