And goddamnit. I had hoped to be done with my Vanity Fair retrospective before this new cover came out. But I'm not even close. Behold: pepto-bismo vanilla! or as they call it "Hollywood Girls" (from left to right): Emily Blunt, Amy Adams, Jessica Biel (floor), Anne Hathaway, Alice Braga, Ellen Page, Zoe Saldana (leggy!), Elizabeth Banks, Ginnifer Goodwin (reclined) and America Ferrera

God what a wretched color scheme. Good to see America Ferrera on the cover but you know what her placement to the far right means -she'll be on the inner-inner foldout section. Damnit. Don't they realize what a GODDESS she is - and btw how teensy bit daring it would be to have a Latina goddess with real curves on the front cover? this is the 21st century - right?

Looks like all of the ethnic girls will be high-tailing it to the foldout section, with the pristine white beauties gracing the cover. Sigh.

That is such a gorgeous picture! Vanity Fair has such amazing photography, I cannot get enough of it, especially when my fave new "It" actresses are in it...Page, Blunt, Adams, Hathaway, America...thanks for the post.

*Can you say hotness, with a dash of class, to go please?*

"Pepto-Bismol vanilla" - love it!

The cover, not so much. It's just the colour scheme that's all, I mean the poses are standard-issue VF Hollywood cover, non?

Also WHERE IS HEIGL? Hello? Take out Elizabeth Banks (am I the only one who had to imdb her? And she's in her mid-30s?) and put in Heigl. Also they'll regret not having Ellen Page on the cover cover.

Emily Blunt and Amy Adams I can understand. Anne Hathaway's appeal completely mystifies me and yep - Ellen Page shuld be front and centre on that cover.

With these covers, I love playing the "who should give their publicist a raise" game - and I agree, it's Banks - the others have varying talents, but can at least claim a certain degree of hotness right now.

I just got my first issue of my new VF subscription, and it wasn't this, it was the damned Indy issue w/ Harrison and Shia! Blast! This better mean the Hollywood Issue is not far behind. I live for it.

i personally enjoy Banks so it was good to see her make it

Heigl was on the cover of Vanity Fair by herself like last month. Her publicist is doing fine.

Horrible colors and Why the hell are the minorities NOT on the cover?

I guess that's Hollywood for ya, throw in some minorities to show that you're diverse, but don't put them on the cover. I won't be buying this shit.

well i think their reasoning is not so much who has what color skin than who is the biggest star. the biggest stars are always on the cover in all 10+ years of these foldouts.

of course why KERRY WASHINGTON is not here i do not know. But this cover seems accurate to me in which 20something actresses are most in demand. EMILY, JESSICA, ANNE, and AMY are the ones being cast in everything...

i still haven't figured out how Jessica's PR team finagled this ressurection of her career but they sure as hell did the past couple of years.

NATHANIEL R said...

and I should add: when I say "biggest stars" i obviously mean of MOVIES. America Ferrera is obviously more famous than Emily Blunt at this point thanks to Ugly Betty ... but it's not movie fame and these Hollywood covers are always about the movies.

in fact, I'm kind of surprised they put her here to begin with given that she's more of a television personality

Well, I would say for your reasoning Nat, that America Ferrara is more popular than Amy Adams & Emily Blunt and certainly way more talented than Jessica Biel. I mean I love Emily ( One of my favorite young actresses), but I don't think she is that popular yet.

If they went with popularity, they should've ditched Emily ( I do like her photo the best) and put America in her place.

Nat- I wrote that before I saw your response.

I also imdb'd Elizabeth Banks, she's Betty Brant from Spiderman. She has about 10 films in the works.

Is anyone else seeing these two predicaments
Emily Blunt=Rachel McAdams

Talented, but only one good performance/movie Mean Girls & Devil Wears Prada.

Amy Adams=Julia Roberts.

Good at what they do, but virtually plays the same character in every movie.

Nat, calling Amy a 20something actress is reaching a bit. Unless "something" can be thirteen.

C'mon is Vanity Fair really noted for putting Minorities on the cover?? I mean Sandra Bullock got a solo cover for Christ's sake. The first time they had a cover of all minorities was Dreamgirls with Beyawnce ,Eddie Murphy & Jamie Foxx. The cover itself was a historical event. I mean gosh it's the 2000's.

Anyway this spread reminds me of Easter.

NATHANIEL R said...

yeah sorry. there are a couple of 30somethings here, yes.

but what's age really when there's so beauty to gaze upon?

if they woulda just replaced Jessica Biel with Kerry Washington they would have had an all AWESOME cover and solved their 'no minority covergirls' problem in one swoop.

Can Kerry Washington even be considered a rising star anymore, though? I thought she was pretty established.

But Jessica Biel should be worshiping her PR team everyday for what they've managed to do for her. Pity she doesn't have the talent to back it up.

Kerry Washington was on the cover of the Hollywood issue Three years ago with Sienna MillerI believe in 2005. Check out the Vanity Fair Hollywood cover gallery.

well yes, but they've repeated before. Penelope Cruz seems to be a regular, no? and she even made it onto the LEGENDS cover before VOLVER came out... so...
