Best win: Jake Gyllenhaal-getting some deserved kudos.

Worst win: John Williams (for the second best score he wrote this year-and personally one of my least favorite of his).

YES YES YES YES! muahhahahaha Thandie Newton won Best Supporting Actress! YES YES YES! she is waaaaayyyyyy more deserving to be nominated in the Academy picks rather than Catherine Keener & Frances McDormand. Serves the academy right for not nominating her!

Best win in my book: The Beat That My Heart Skipped as Best Foreign-Language Film. Rock on, for that film getting some recognition. (Back me up, Boyfriend—it's French!)

Totally thought Clooney was going to win in Supporting (two nominations?). I doubt that Gyllenhaal's win will (positively) affect his chances at the Oscars, but good for him nonetheless.

Word on The Beat that My Heart Skipped winning. I loved the film and I'm so upset it got ignored by most American critics.

Happy for Brokeback, Thandie (as you know I actually am a fan of this perf), and the two brit prizes - totally deserving of Wallace & Gromit!

I find it extremely odd that two of the three wins for Memoirs are for the two of underwhelming aspects of the movie - cinematography and score.

I L.O.V.E. Dione Beebe but his work on this movie was uninspired and boring to say the least. And John Williams? His Munich score is one of the year's best. This one however is not.

Yay for Jake though!

I loved Thandie Newton's performance too!

(Hated her speech though. Most faux-emotive display I've seen since Kidman turned her back in her Oscar speech. Oy.)

I am starting to think that with both Ledger and Williams losing ground to Hoffman and Weisz, maybe Jake could win for supporting actor so that Brokeback gets an acting Oscar ? Just a thought.

I'm hoping Gyllenhaal comes through at the Oscars too- he definitely gave one of the most skillful, sensitive performances of the year.

I was beginning to think that Jake could pull an upset (as well as Amy Adams) and this is giving me more hope.

Also, yay for Beat My Heart Skipped! The best French film made this year (Kings and Queen was technically 2004).
