Stone Cold Linker

Silver Screen
The Big Picture still waiting on the (nonexistent) trailer for Avatar.
Do You Have a Flag? remembers The Virgin Suicides. Mmm, pretty pictures.
Big Screen Little Screen Melissa Leo going back to series television.
MNPP James Franco (I nearly spit out my coffee. LOL)

Should Julia Roberts get a restraining order?

Film Addict remembers Ruth Chatterton in Dodsworth. Dodsworth is one of my all time favorites. For some reason I have yet to surmount my block about writing it up.
/Film is Skarsgård picking up Thor's hammer? And do we need a Thor movie? Remember how that little girl in Adventures in Babysitting was obsessed with the Norse god and how totally random and weird that was?
Oscar and the City reveals his "most anticipated performances" list.
The Inciting Incident How cool must it be to be a Pixar intern? I imagine very.
Disney Blog Seems The Princess and the Frog is doing a limited Thanksgiving wide mid- December release so favored by live action prestige pictures. Curious.

Apparently Taylor Kitsch is sick of providing beefcake for Friday Night Lights (Not to worry. Riggins is about to graduate and become "Gambit")
EW Friday Night Lights might get a 4th and 5th season. If it comes to pass I will explode with happines. Quick show of hands in the comments please. How many of you watch it? And if you do, how much do you love Connie Britton? So EMMY worthy! Between ignoring both her and the women of Galactica for years it's quite possible that EMMY voters officially have the worst taste in actresses of any organization that's ever existed. They'll have another chance to fix this in July, but they love to repeat their mistakes.
LA Times I never thought I'd be linking to an American Idol piece again (I've been over that show since as long as I can remember) but this is a fairly interesting piece about the show's deep homophobia and racial comformity issues. They'll never have to correct any of their sins against society (i.e. their devoted audience) with the ratings they get, though. Sad but true.

Mmm, Battlestar Galactica. Basically any woman (and almost every man) on that show is such a talent. Mary McDonnell particularly, but Katee Sackhoff, Tricia Helfer, Grace Park, Lucy Lawless etc. are all so good.

Thank you for the link! That's awesome. I saw the Taylor Kitsch article about not wanting to be a cover boy... I'm pretty sure that's why he's getting movies though, so I wouldn't complain if I were him.

You are so amazingly right about Connie Britton, the women of BSG and the Emmys! How they pass them up every year is beyond understanding. Especially Britton! I hope they get those extra seasons, it's one of the best dramas on TV.

*waves* I watch FNL; love the show, love Britton (but love Chandler more), love everything about it. That said--I don't have DirecTV and am watching it on NBC now, so maybe the remaining episodes will surprise me--going by the ones I've seen thus far, I think this season should be the show's last. Two major characters (Smash and Street) are already gone and it's obvious that Riggins and Tyra are college-bound. So that leaves us with Matt and the Taylors, which I don't think is enough for the show. And I can't say I'm anxious to see new characters.

Also, I hope Kitsch doesn't think he's getting the roles that he is because of the fantastic acting talent he's demonstrated thus far. That isn't to say there's no depth to him, but it couldn't hurt him to know why he has any career.

::raises hand:: Clear eyes, full heart, can't lose! I wonder who they're going to "send off" next after Smash and Street. Anyone but Matty would be okay by me.

I think TV is a good move for Melissa Leo. She could go the way of Holly Hunter and Kyra Sedwick on her TV show.

Thanks for the link. Dodsworth really does rule.

I too am waiting for an Avatar trailer. It looks so mammoth and he's the guy that gets big-budget right. If the preview clips are encouraging though it could send the whole hype thing into overload, and I definitely think people will be very critical of it if it's not fabulous.

Tami Taylor is the best female character on TV. While a selfish part of me wishes the show had ended after its perfect first season, I am delighted to hear that a two-season pickup is a possibility. Loved the way they used this season to send-off some of the original players while introducing potential newbies.

I'm still waiting on the movie (the magical, imaginary one that's playing in my head) where Taylor Kitsch plays Josh Brolin's brother.
I can't be the only one who sees that resemblance... and then promptly creates films in their mind...

1. Not a Friday Night Lights fan. Gave up halfway through the first season.

2. I think one could probably write a pretty awesome essay on how American Idol is a manifestation of what's wrong with current pop culture/society (he says snobbily).

3. No, we don't need a Thor movie.

4. Very interesting maneuver for The Princess and the Frog. Family films tend to do well during the Christmas season, so this could be a major hit.

arkaan re: 1 really??? I haven't seen the first season and I keep hearing it's the best but i love love love the 2nd and 3rd seasons. And that's saying quite a lot since the whole idea of the show is not even remotely appealing to me. But it's so well done that I just love it.

FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS! That cast is incredible (after Connie Britton, I like Tyra and Landry) but the Emmys refuse to do anything about it :( And Holly Hunter is very, very good in Saving Grace which I just started watching.

I haven't watched 'Friday Night Lights' but I totally agree on the women on 'Battlestar Galactica'. Also, Emmy voters seem to not appreciate really great comedy supporting actresses - like Jane Krakowski on '30 Rock' or Jenna Fisher on 'The Office.'

Friday Night Lights should have about 30 Emmys already. Sigh.

And season 3 is amazing.

I know some people think that season 4 would be difficult without half the cast but I actually think the cast might be a touch too large currently... if I could find one fault with the show it's that it seems to forget about characters and drop subplots (not completely but for long stretches) probably because they're juggling so much.

If FNL comes back for two more seasons, I will go f'ing crazy. One of the best network TV shows of all time. How Britton AND Chandler have been left Emmy-less at this point is a crime and an embarrassment.

Yeah, I concede I might be crazy re: FNL, but I'm sticking to it. Everyone I know loves the first season. I watched the first two episodes and decided that it wasn't for me. It wasn't like Heroes, where I flat out hated it and took pleasure in my loathing. But I gave it a second shot, but remain at quite the distance from the show. It's not deplorable, but I would describe my reaction as grudging disapproval: I would much prefer to like it, to take from it what everyone else seems to take, but I simply don't.

I watched the Cheri clip on Oscar and the city - and I confess to not being as much of a Pfeiffer fan as you Nat (understatement) but having thought her wonderful in Batman, the Fabulous Baker Boys, Married to the Mob ,etc - maybe I need to see that in context, but the longer I watched that clip the more my interest deflated. Maybe her accent is supposed to shift all over the place? There seemed something wrong, something too stiff and arch "modern" about her accent, her performance, even the set. (what I could see of it). I found myself thinking, you know, this might work a lot better set in Southern California circa the late 1970's/early 1980's or somesuch.

Some people just don't do period all that well, and I think Pfeiffer is one of them, I'm afraid to say.
