Curio: Brangelina, Circa 1960

Alexa from Pop Elegantiarum here. I love Carrie Fisher, and I wish I could swoop into New York to catch her one-woman show Wishful Drinking. One of her bits involves her drawing a comparison between Eddie Fisher leaving her mom, Debbie Reynolds, for Elizabeth Taylor and the whole Brad Pitt - Angelina Jolie - Jennifer Aniston saga. All it took was a glance at this old Screenplay magazine of mine to confirm that she's on to something.

It's all there: the story purporting to break up the raven-haired temptress and Eddie, followed by a sympathy piece on Debbie the single gal. I wonder who will play these roles in another 40 years?

An aside: the cover story "Strange Things Marlon Brando Does to Women" really doesn't live up to its title. It's just a bunch of pics of Marlon and his co-stars. Snooze.

How old will Dakota Fanning be in another 40 years. Oh no wait, too old for this sort of scandal.

It's so true that Hollywood is a cycle like this.

I wonder what it says about me that in both instances I love the raven haired seductress most?!

What B.S.!! Carrie Fisher is just using the infernal triangle to get more attention. Angelina isn't anything like Elizabeth Taylor. Taylor was a "friend" of Debbie Reynolds and the couples had socialized together before Mike Todd's plane crashed. Debbie Reynolds had 2 children with Eddie Fisher and Taylor had 3 children although she rarely saw any of them.

Angelina didn't have an affair with Brad Pitt before his marriage ended but Taylor did with Fisher and then they ran off together when it was made public.

And I don't believe Jolie gave Carrie Fisher her OK to trash her in her book and road act like she alleged.

Brando did some wierd things to his co-stars though (Last Tango in Paris anyone?)

Lots of celebrities had had affairs. Audrey Hepburn and her affairs, Marilyn Munroe and her affairs, Katherine Hepburn and her affair, Elizabeth Taylor and her affairs, Paul Newman met Joanne Woodward when he was still married... I can go on. That's why I find it annoying when Aniston fans are still angry at Angelina. Who gives a crap about Aniston love life? Why do we have to stop our lives to mourn for Aniston? The Jolie-Pitt-Aniston triangle is not the first time in Hollywood, and certainly not the first in human history. So bitter Aniston fans need to STFU and stop acting like we're still in 2005.

Ahhh, I love Carrie.

Wasn't the Fisher-Reynolds marriage loveless from the get-go?

well Goya it may not be a "perfect" comparison, point-for-point, but Carrie Fisher is so entertaining we'll let her stretch whatever points she needs to.

her books are so funny and i hope y'all have checked one or two of them out. She's a better writer than she ever was an actress.

Yeah, i see it already, Freddie Highmore (FINDING NEVERLAND, CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACORY) will be leaving Dakota Fanning for that little minx Abigail Breslin (LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE). You know it's gonna happen!!

Sure why not? Carrie Fisher is sick and sooooooooooooo funny so it is OK for her to lie and malign a young women who did nothing to deserve same! Makes total sense!
