NY Times on the enduring Brooke Astor. This story of a 104 year-old Manhattan gazillionaire has been pretty fascinating lately. I hope they make a movie someday and give some ancient actress a chance to win an Oscar. [src]

Just Jared has pics of the onscreen (Black Dahlia) / offscreen couple: Scarlett Johansson & Josh Hartnett. Just a few days back we were reading about Scarlett's love of cupcakes. Now, there's another dessert in her hands. Hollywood stick figures take note: This girl is sexier than you. Put on some lbs!

All of these Scarlett pics are making me giddy to keep checking out the blog, Nat. You devil.

God I couldn't agree more about Rex Reed, his reviews make me insane!!! I would rather listen to Ed Koch, and that is a painful stance for one's sanity.

Item #2 on Pajiba with regards to Chuck & Larry ... does Dustin Rowles know it's directed by Alexander Payne? If he does, then he should have questioned Payne's sudden turn into a Hollywood turd. If he doesn't, then he should do his research before over-reacting. Yeah, it sounds stupid and homophobic on paper. But, a little research doesn't hurt. And Kevin & Adam together could be REALLY funny. I hardly think it warrants a comparison to Boat Trip.

Okay, okay. There is egg on my face. Payne wrote it, not directed it. I could have sworn otherwise. But, oh well! I guess I should do more research next time!

NATHANIEL R said...

you gotta admit though that the whole premise is insulting (straight people pretending to be gay to get rights --its' SO the other way around in real life. We do not have, in any way, preferential treatment. Not even in the domestic partner way)

so unless Payne clearly understands how insulting the premise is and the movie is some sort of comeuppance switcheroo plotting than OK.

I've really liked all of his films up until now so I'm crossing my fingers but still...

Anonymous said...

I mean wrote and not "directing" (as in present tense) ... so, yeah, it might just well be an inspired idea that is dummified big time.

Anonymous said...

I agree. The premise IS insulting. But, with Payne involved, I can't help but wonder. But, then again, he's not directing, so, now I'm crossing my fingers because it's out of his hands.

That "best" critics list seriously makes me want to cry (is anyone listed even remotely as enjoyable or remarkable as say, Pauline Kael? Damn pseudo-intellectuals...)

Anonymous said...

I don't know anything about NYC critics or critics in general (I stopped reading most a while ago). All I know is that Duncan Sheppard is a pretentious nerd. And that Pauline Kael will always rule supreme.

Anonymous said...

Oh, I just had a flashback to one of Nate's previous posts (or am I getting it confused with someone else?). Something about nerd vs. geek verse etc ... nerd's were good right? Okay, so Duncan Sheppard is a pretentious geek. And yeah I'm probably spelling his name wrong and I don't care.

Javier Aldabalde said...

Of course. All of her reviews turn me on, she's like this unstoppable sexual force with a supreme understanding of movies, love her.

NATHANIEL R said...

the geek/dork/nerd thing is a speciality of Mary Ann Johansson and I did it once in tribute...

geek is good/self aware. dork is borderline. nerd is bad/clueless.

Anonymous said...

of those 3, geek actually has the strongest negative connotations to me, though it depends a lot on the context

Isn't EW's Lisa Schwartzbaum based in NY? If so, she belongs on the "Worst" list.

Thanks, Nate. I've decided that Duncan Sheppard is just a lame turd (yeah, I went to college), which is (I hope) below all those other labels.

Who's Duncan Sheppard?

This Chuck and Larry movie is deeply saddening, but I've had time to deal because, and it pains me to say this, the idea was actually first made into an Australian film in 2004 called Strange Bedfellows starring *shudders* Paul Hogan and Michael Caton (what are you doing there Michael?!).

So while the thought of Larry & Chuck sickens me I find it worse that the country that gave the world Priscilla (gay mecca!!!) also shoved this opun you guys. On behalf of everyone involved - I apologise.

It's strange that they don't seem to be acknowledging the fact that this idea has clearly already been done. Like, it's the exact same plot.

Glenn Dunks said...

Oh,nevermind, IMDb is claiming this is an official remake of Strange Bedfellows. Strange though that every article about this movie doesn't make any mention whatsoever to this fact.

pfft, idiots.

Nathaniel,
I'm tired of people like you who want Madonna and Nicole Kidman to be like Scarlett. They both are very thin and fit, muscular, because THEY ENJOY EXERCISING. They are modern women. They go running 4 times a week, they work out.. that's why they don't have SCarlett's curves who, by the way, doesn't like exercising.
SCarlett is beautiful, sexy, she's a hottie.. she doesn't have to lose weight if she doesn't want to. But the work-out freaks like Kidman and Madonna don't have to stop exercising just to please some gay guy who wouldn't even want to make love to them.

NATHANIEL R said...

marc --you gotta be kidding me. you think I want Madonna (MADONNA?) to change the way she looks. that's a big no.

but, and i'd love to hear from the straight guys on this... wouldn't you rather make love to a woman like Scarlett than skeleton girls like Keira Knightley or Kate Bosworth? Isn't Catherine Zeta-Jones hotter than Renée Zellweger in Chicago?

I don't think it's very "gay" of me to suggest that Hollywood women in the interest of being the most attractive are becoming less attractive and should put on some weight.

The same impulse that is behind all those jutting collarbones and oversized heads is behind all the inflated lips and bad plastic surgery too.

The way I see it (and I could be wrong but I doubt it --I'd love to hear more opinions on this) most women who make it in Hollywood are already crazy attractive. Why kill themselves to look better...when it doesn't even make them look better? It's lose/lose for both the women and the audiences.

Anonymous said...

he said make love. that's so sweet.

Anonymous said...

"Skeleton girls"? You mean like Lindsay Lohan or Kirsten Dunst? ;)

Catty, catty...

Anyway, in my opinion Keira Knightley at least is no skeleton (don't know much about Bosworth, don't care either). Her upper body is thin and she has the smallest breasts in Hollywood, but I suggest taking a look at her lower half (there are other curves than just tits, you know). Big ass, meaty thighs.

Now, as a straight dude I will say I have no single favorite part by which I grade women. Some men identify as "breast" or "leg" men, I just tend to go for the overall package.

I heart Scarlett, but I heart Keira just as much.

And I agree with kris, post more pics of ScarJo. :D

Glenn Dunks said...

I was gonna say what Nat said. Nobody is saying people like Madonna and Nicole should be looking like Scarlett, but Kate Bosworth looks grotesque. Just a bit more weight, please!

And everyone basically knows for a fact that Lindsay Lohan was hotter when she had some meat on her bones.

Duncan Sheppard is the film critic for the San Diego weekly freebie "The Reader."

All I kept thinking whenever Bosworth was onscreen throughout Superman Returns was how unattractive she was. Knightley has a beautiful face (and hey I have a fetish for English accents) but she does look downright skeletal (and anonymous those pictures of her at the beach didn't help your case). If she put on some weight there would be no question about her hotness.

Being straight I can't understand why so many tout these bone bags as great beauties. I think THE sexiest woman on the face of the earth is Monica Bellucci and Johansson isn't far behind.

And to marc there is such a thing as exercise bulimia.

http://www.laineygossip.com/ArticleList.aspx?ID=4302

Keira has a horrid fashion sense, but she's no skeleton.

Moving on to the critics article:

Rex Reed indeed sucks. If someone would hold a competition for the worst US film critic, I couldn't decide between him and Peter Travers if I got to vote...

Anonymous said...

Now I don't think Keira Knightley is unhealthily or unnattractively skinny, but I take exception to describing her as having a "big ass" and "meaty thighs". Please.

Glenn Dunks said...

Anon 12:37 - I'm a gay man and I can tell Monica is the sexiest woman around. And Vincent Cassell is probably the second sexiest male.

Brangelina: 5/10
Vincica (???): 223,393,392,003,393.3/10

Sorry, whenever I discuss Vincent and Monica I get a little haywire and lose the main plot of things.

Nathaniel,

As a straight guy, obviously I would prefer to f#%$ with Scarlett or Beyonce rather than Madonna or Kidman..But that's not the point and I'm surprised that you don't seem to understand one basic thing when it comes to icons : Kidman & Madonna are icons because their body is not accessible, which means the other women cannot compete with them. On the other hand some of my girlfriends can compete with Scarlett because there's nothing about her that she had to build, I mean beautiful boobs are given by nature !
Do you think Madonna woke up one day and realised she had amazing thighs at 48 ? No, because she's been exercising for years !! Do you think Kidman decided to wear a bikini this year because someone told her she had nice legs ? No, she's been working out for years too !!
Basically, I'm just saying that Hilary Swank's body is more beautiful to look at according to modern standards than Scarlett's but Miss Johansson's is sexier.

anonymous: There are several pictures of her that show her ribs protruding out, to me that is unattractively thin. I'm not going to go so far as to say she looks unhealthy but at least to my standards her body is not very desirable.

kamikaze camel: As long as you have a pulse I don't think you can deny how sexy this woman is, whether you be straight or gay, man or woman.

Anonymous said...

To anonymous I'm talking about Knightley and to kamikaze I'm talking about Bellucci.

Straight guy here, casting my vote for the Scarletts and Kates. I like a woman who eats.
